Question about GE Profile JT952 Electric Double Oven

1 Answer

GE Profile JT952 Double Wall Oven doesn't heat up adequately

The Upper oven will say its on, then heats up a little, but it is only warm, not hot. For example...I cooked baked potatoes for 1.0 hour on 350. They turned out luke warm and not cooked at all. The Upper oven broiler work, The Bottom oven works fine.
The first time we attempted to turn the oven on to make dinner, the temp was rising on the digital readout and when it almost got to 350, the oven started sparking and crackling down toward the bottom/back area. It smelled of melted wiring or plastic and gave off a noticeable amount of smoke. It hasn’t worked right since then.
The house cleaner left a huge amount of oven cleaner in the oven. maybe when they sprayed it, it affected the fan in the back or some other element.... hmmmm? That's all I can conclude.

After self cleaning now won't heat up

Self cleaning superheats the oven to burn off the dirt to ash. Unfortunately it can also burn out elements and the wires that are attached to the elements.

Disconnect again and check the timed oven settings. If no go, you need a service engineer.

My top oven won't reach temperature. Convection and broil work, bake doesn't. Over a year ago I did a self clean...hasn't worked since. I really need it to work especially with Thanksgiving next week.

It does sound like the element may be bad. The control will cycle the bake and broil elements to even the heat in the oven. if the element is out the oven won't heat well.

GE Profile JTP85 (installed 1998). The lower heat element in the lower oven will not heat. I can make the upper element heat up by using the BROIL function, but neither element gets warm on BAKE.

I was just preheating my GE JT950 oven and there was a loud "pop" sound from the top fan, and then smoke emanated from the oven. The circuit breaker in the home is fine, as no fuses were blown. Any advice

bake element do pop when they burn out and some will act like a sparkler and burn and burn .. I would look for a bad spot in the element of the oven that you wer heating . mm

Oven low heat

Did you try going to the GE website to pull up the Use and Care Manual? It does have a section re: how to adjust the temperature by as much as 35 degrees either way. Although it is not the 100 degrees you mentioned, you could try it and see if it helps...

The main GE website is: http://www.geappliances.com/

At the top of the web page is a SEARCH section. You can click on the blue down arrow in the first box and select Use & Care Manuals, then put your model number in the empty box to the right of that selection box, ie. JT952 is my oven.

If you are having a problem locating your model number/serial number, you can go to the FAQ (frequently asked questions) section to see how to find it.

GE Profile JT952 Double Wall Oven

Hi there,

sounds like the heater element needs replacing. But before replacing it or buying one would be a good idea to check your power point (wall socket) to make sure it is okay. Then check the oven wires to make sure there are no burnt or broken wires. Check for fuses that might have blown - some ovens do have fuses. After checking all of these you will need to check to see if you have power getting to the element. If not chances are you have a faulty switch. If you are getting power to the element chances are the element is faulty and will need replacing. Hope this helps.

Bryan

Electric Oven doen't heat

cdkd, there should be a TC0, on the back of the oven. Thermal cut out. You want to check to see if it is open. You will have to pull the oven out enough that you can remove the back panel cover and check it. The lower and upper oven should have one. It's a very cheap part to replace. If this TCO fails, no heat. Check this first before buying a new board. Catriver..post back.
