Question about Kenmore Washing Machines

1 Answer

Kenmore he4t problem stops on fault F-06. Book said to check all wiring connection between motor and MCU did no help. Book said to check motor continuity pins 1 and 2 get 6.4, pins 1 and 3 get 6.4, pins 2 and 3 get unstable reading. Ran diagnostic test and it kicks out when it gets to C:07. What is the problem? motor or MCU or something else.

The following link can give you some tips on how to isolate the problem:

http://www.fixya.com/support/r3608706-f06_error_code

If you are referring to the pins on the connector plug to the motor, you may have a defective winding in the motor, a broken wire in the wire harness, or a broken pin at the connector plug.

The 6.4 ohm readings would indicate a normal reading for a motor windings. Double check your measurements. I would recommend unplugging the connector from the MCU to ensure you aren't reasing any parallel resistive paths. A varying resistance that continually changes can mean you are inadvertently reading a capactor somewhere in the circuit.

In the majority of the cases, I have found the MCU tachometer to be the cause of this error code. The tachometer is physically part of the board, which means you have to replace the MCU if defective.

If you have further questions, please post back and let me know.

Terry, here's the fault definition and the checks/repairs for it... F/06; Drive Motor Tachometer Error "The control is unable to properly detect motor speed and the machine will shut down. If a failure occurs during high-speed spin, the door will be unlocked after 3 minutes." Check/Repair; * Check wire harness connections between the Drive Motor/Tachometer and the Motor Control Unit (MCU), and between the MCU and the Central Control Unit (CCU) * Check the Drive Motor * Check the MCU * Check the Wire Harness If you can next time, please provide the entire model number in your post so we can help a bit more. Kenmore doesn't actually manufacture anything, they purchase their units from manufacturers and slap the Kenmore label on them. The model number is located just inside the door on the frame of the unit.

Our machine (HE4T) is showing a error code of F 06 . Can you please advise what this code is indicating the problem may be ? Thanks for your help ! Dave M

Hi

Thanks for using FixYa. Error F06 in your whirlpool duet indicates that the control is unable to properly detect the motor speed and so the washer shuts down. This usually occurs during high speed spin and the door will be unlocked after 3 minutes. To resolve this issue you’ll have to check the wire harness connections between the Driver motor and the Motor control unit (MCU). If that is fine then check the connection between the MCU & central control unit (CCU), replace the part that has gone bad. Please do rate the solution if the issue is resolved or post a comment for further assistance.

Thanks
Rylee

Kenmore HE4T elite: Incomplete F 06 error

The error is an indication a motor speed problem. You will need to check the following:

- Check the wiring harness. Verify all connections between the Drive Motor, Motor Control Unit (MCU), and Central Control Unit (CCU).

NOTE: The MCU is a circuit board located in the vicinity of the Drive Motor on the bottom rear of the washer. To access the MCU, you will need to remove the back panel of the washer.

NOTE: The CCU is the main computer for the washer and is located behind the wash tub. You will need to remove the top panel to access the CCU. This is accomplished by removing the three screws in the back of the washer that hold the top in place. Once the screws are removed, the top panel will slide back, then lift off.

- Check the Drive Motor. Perform a continuity check of the Drive Motor windings. Remove the connector plug and check across pins 1 to 2, 2 to 3, and 1 to 3. All readings should be approximately 6 ohms. HINT: You can also take this reading by removing connector 2 from the MCU and measuring across pins 1, 2 and 3. If the readings are good, this will also prove the wiring and connector good.

- Check the MCU. The connectors are numbered 1 to 3 (L to R). That is, with the MCU installed, connector 1 is on the bottom, followed by 2 in the middle, and 3 on top.

Connector 1 - is the serial communications link between the MCU and CCU and has three wires. At the opposite end, this will be the 2nd connector from the rear on the left-hand side of the CCU.
Connector 2 - is the link between the MCU and the Drive Motor. Pins 1, 2, and 3 on this connector are the Drive Motor windings. Pins 4 and 5 are for the tachometer.
Connector 3 - is the primary power connector. Pins 1 to 2 should read 120VAC with the door in the locked position. Pin 3 is ground. At the opposite end, this is the 4th connector from the right on the front of the CCU.

NOTE: All the connector pins are numbered R to L.

If your continuity readings are normal for the Drive Motor and you have verified all connectors, replace the MCU.

If any of the Drive Motor windings indicate readings higher that 6 ohms, replace the Drive Motor.

Have a HE4t. Giving us a f 11 fault on display. what does this mean

F11 is a serial communication error between the main contol board and the motor control board.
Here is a list of things to check:

  • Check Wire Harness connectors to the MCU, the motor, and Central Control Unit (CCU)
  • Check the Drive system for any worn or failed components
  • Check MCU
  • Check CCU
  • Check Motor
  • Check Wire Harness

  • Unfortunately if you do not have the proper equipment, you cannot narrow the problem down. More than likely it is a main control unit problem but that is only the most replaced part on your unit.

F07 occurs at end of first rinse cycle

F07 - Motor Control Unit (MCU) Error - Disconnect power and unplug unit. Check wire harness connections between drive motor and Motor Control Unit (MCU), and between MCU and the Central Control Unit (CCU). Reconnect power and plug unit in.
Check the MCU by looking for operations of the drive motor, and check drive motor for powered rotations. Replace failed component.

Note: If this failure occurs during high-speed spin, the door will be unlocked after three minutes.

Iget a f-11 trouble code on my kenmore elite he4t washer.

REplace your MCU. The MCU is the Drive Motor Control board and is located in the rear of the washer adjacent to the Drive Motor on the left-hand side (facing from the rear with the back panel removed). The wiring harness can also cause the error, but it is not as common a problem. Go onto kenmore.com and find your right washing machine and replace the part yourself. First try and take the wiring harness off and then reconnect it and see if the error code goes away if it doesnt then replace the part. Please Rate. Thank you
