The element is located behind the drum itself and the drum must be removed in order for it to be accessed. this requires popping the top of the dryer open as the are metal clips that hold it closed it will take a flat screwdriver to wedge it the crack and give it a good pop so that the handle of your driver moves towards the floor when you pry it open.Be sure to shut off the breaker as well as unplug thew unit before you do anything at all.the drum will slide out relatively easy but you must remove the belt by accessing it usually through the front bottom panel(metal clips) be sure to remember how the belt goes on the pulleys as it can be tricky to put it back the same way it was. this is impotant because there is a swithch under the arm on one of the pulleys that if its not assembled proprly the switch will not be depressed and it will not run.

KENMORE DRYER JUST STOPPED HEATING UP WHAT CAN I DO TO REPAIR IT?

Replace the Heating Element. The heating element is usually located behind a panel on the back. To replace you will need to remove the back cover of the dryer, then locate the heating element. The heating element is screwed into place and is easy to unscrew and replace. Be sure to have the dryer unplugged while doing this.
Here is the part for it:

No heat in kenmore series 80, model 85040

hello there:
here is some troubleshooting ideas for you to help
A dryer sometimes won't heat or heats too slowly because of a variety of reasons. By following the guidelines below, you can inspect the heating elements on a gas or electric dryer to pinpoint the source of the problem.
Electric heating elements, found in electric dryers, are self-contained units located in the back of the dryer. A defective heating element is frequently the source of no-heat or drying problems. Remove the back service panel to gain access to the elements.
The heating elements are located inside the heater ducts. If you think a heating element is faulty

NO HEAT

heating elements are located in the stainless steel tube attached to the control box. Older models from the early 1990's and 1980's were sometimes housed in a plastic case with a square 5 x 5 plate on the one end.
