Open Question

I recently purchased a Horton EZ-Winder III on Ebay and I would like to know what the two small screws in brass bushings are used for? I think it might be an older model, it has a black housing. Thank you.

SOURCE: Where can I buy a battery charger for my Jet 3

Hi. Try a google search for your nearest pride dealer.
You would be better advised to get your batteries tested first. It is more likely to be a battery fault.
If you do need a new charger, ask for one of the new pride chargers, as are sold with the Pathrider 130 XL mobility scooter. These chargers are a very good charger. Once the batteries have been fully charged, the charger drops its charge rate to 27.6 volts. This means that you can leave the charger on for days at a time, and not overcharge the batteries.
The older 4 amp chargers maintain the full rate of charge, and do not drop down to the lower charge rate. These chargers should only be used for overnight charging after each use.
Good luck. Neil.

Bobbin on Bernina 807 won't wind?

Please follow the logic checks and possible corrections:

1. Check the winder shaft for a sticking or a stuck condition. If stuck or sticking, add a drop or two of mineral spirits to the winder shaft and the winder support bushing. This will generally release the winder shaft.
If the winder shaft becomes free wheeling, clean off excess solvent and apply a drop of Bernina machine oil which is typically a class 68 machine oil. You can also use a common white mineral sewing machine oil.
Do not use WD-40 or 3 in 1 oil!
If WD-40 had been used prior to the winder seizure then you'll know why....Removing sticky WD-40 residues requires further measures.

2. If only the rubber wheel has hardened, you will need to replace the winder hub with a new hub and replaceable winder ring or the entire winder can be replaced. There are some very good after-market parts available online.

3. If the winder parts are good and you are describing a condition where the hand-wheel will not release so that the machine drives while trying to wind a bobbin, this would requite another question and detailed answer... SewTechnical Home

Surface cleaner won't spin

I agree, the teflon rings appear to br the only things that wear (aside from the hole size which could wear from water abrasion, but unlikely). That would explain the metal to metal sound you hear at times because the seals prevent wobbling.

My singer quantum 9940 bobbin will not fill even. What seems to be the problem?

There's a small screw on top of bobbin winder on your machine. Turn screw to adjust pressure where bobbin meets the winder when winder is pushed to right to wind it. Test with small turns until you are satisfied with appearance. Make sure nice, even fill- as you know, imbalanced bobbin will reak havoc. Jimmy

I recently purchased the shop fox brass router bushing kit. It came without a manual. Do you have them?

I am not sure that any router bushing sets come with a manual. I know the Craftsman set only has a little one-page flyer with the parts included in the kit. They are made basically all the same, just the material is different. (brass, plastic or aluminum) It's one of those tools (like a hammer or pliers) that manufactures assume you know how to use.
Here is a great article Read through it and then read the next article on centering bushings on your router. It should give you most of the answers you need.

I think I have a Leviton double pole dimmer switch. It used to operate track lighting along with an on/off light switch in the same room (different entrance). I replaced the track lighting with a fan...

You mention a dimmer and a 2nd on-off switch.
You purchased a 'double pole' switch which I believe is a 3-way switch.

3-way switch has 3 screws (plus ground screw which will not be mentioned further)
3 screws on 3-way switch = one is dark colored, and 2 are brass colored.

You can guess. There are only 3 wires and you can keep trying different combination until both switches work. Do not change wiring on 2nd switch and sooner or later the right combination will appear.

On the other hand, electricians test wires using ordinary tester, before connecting anything.
If you want to test, it takes 3 ez steps.

Here's what I would do.
1) Look at wiring on 2nd switch.
Notice switch has 1 dark screw and 2 brass screws.
If you can identify the two wires on the brass colored screws, these are the 'travelers' and same two wires connect to brass colored screws on new switch. And then last wire connects to dark colored screw.

2) You have noted the wires carefully on dimmer, so remove dimmer, and separate wires for testing.
2nd switch is moved to down position.
We are NOT going to test wires on 2nd switch.
We are just testing wires at old dimmer.
Turn on power.

Power is on.
2nd switch is in down position.
Test each wire to bare ground wire.
One and only one wire will light up the tester.
Mark this wire.

3) Change 2nd switch, and move 2nd switch to up position.
Test each wire again to bare ground wire.
Again only one wire will light up tester.
Mark this wire.
If same wire lights up tester each time, then this is the Hot wire and it connects to new switch dark screw. And the other two wires go to brass colored screws.
If a different wire lights up each time, then these two wires are 'travellers' and they connect to each brass colored screw. And the last wire connects to dark colored screw.

Need tool to adjust small splined carb adj. screws . will not rev up and stay revved up , on polan leaf blower.

Sellers on Ebay have the tool. Of course you have to register as a member to buy. The tool is not readily available at small engine repair shops or hardware stores as the manufacturers don't want us to mess with the "lean" settings required per EPA emissions rules (esp. in California). If you don't use Ebay, there are other ways to "turn" those little splined mixture screws. I use wire plastic wire terminal connectors (ring type and splice-connecting type). I tap the ends of the wire connectors (not wire nuts, mind you) over the heads of the screws until tight and proceed from there. The wire connectors I use I think fit 22 gauge wire. If you take them out, cut slots in the heads so they can be turned with a conventional screwdriver. This is a very, very cheap alternative to buying a tool. Small, soft brass or aluminum tubing (found at hardware stores and big box stores) can also be forced down over the heads of the screws. I will include a link to the tools on Ebay and a link on how to adjust the carburetor using the 2 (L and H) adjusting needles.
