The following link explains how to replace a lid switch on a Kenmore top loading washer:

http://www.fixya.com/support/r3557193-replacing_a_lid_switch

On some models, the lid switch is located under the top casing by one of the lid hinges. You will know if you if you have this type of switch, because it does NOT have a lid strike (actuator) and the small hole on the right hand side of the wash tub will not be present. This type of switch is actuated (toggled) by a rod on the lid hinge. With this type of switch, if you locate it and it can be toggled by hand, you may only need to adjust the actuator rod by bending it slightly.

NOTE: You do not have to drain or bail the water from the washer tub to perform this repair. Once a defective lid switch is replaced, the washer should drain normally.

Replacement parts (if required) can be purchased at any of the following web sites:

searspartsdirect.com
pcappliancerepair.com

The average price of a replacement lid switch is about $25 - $35 if you perform the repair yourself. Prices will vary between sites so shop and compare. The first three sites on the list also have helpful exploded view parts illustrations to assist you with locating and properly identifying any parts you may need.

If you have any questions about this repair, please post back with your complete MODEL NUMBER and let me know. I hope you find this information helpful.

Kenmore 110 washer fills and does the wash cycle but wont drain or spin. Totally shuts down after wash cycle. What do I need to replace

sounds as though the lid switch has gone bad, either that or the motor has lost the reverse winding on it.. most likely lid switch tho.
the lid switch is only "seen" by some older kenmore "110" series at the end of the wash cycle, or end of the rinse cycle. it purpose is to keep the unit from spinning if the lid is opened so no one looses an arm, etc.
generally the console on those machines hinges over backward so you can remove the cabinet top and 3 sides as a unit together..
the lid switch is under the machine top and isn't easily accessible without removing the cabinet.

You may can slightly bent the part the lid contacts so it will be depressed further thereby making the switch. If that doesn't work then you will need to replace the switch.

You need to replace the Kenmore Washer Lid Switch. I had the same problem so being lazy I would just push down on the washer's lid and it would push the lid switch further down. making the water drain. after a while I just replaced the lid switch.
