Why is my gold medal popcorn model # 2552 machine not heating to pop popcorn anymore?

A kettle not heating is either a switch, kettle wires, thermostat, or kettle heater.

Check that the kettle is plugged in tight, notice if the switch lights up when switched, then contact your local gold medal dealer for repairs. It is always cheaper to repair a gold medal kettle than replace.

The switch does not automatically turn off when the water boils. If left alone all the water will boil out.

The switch has to turn off when the water boils as the heat generated must cut off the switch. If this wont work the bimetal is not working and the switch is not responding.
You will need to replace the switch. Please contact the dealership for the spare.

Not boiling anymore.

Hi.

Problem is usually either the heating element or the thermostat installed in line with the element. The heating element can be tested using a multimeter. A good element will read from 20 to 80 Ohms (depending on type and model). If the element reads open (Ohms infinity), then the part must be replaced.

The thermostat can be tested jumping its contact. With the thermostat contacts jumped the kettle will not turn off. With thermostat jumped the appliance must be turned off manually. If the kettle works with the thermostat jumped, then the problem was the thermostat.

If problem is none of the above test the kettle switch. Check also the fuse that is in the power cord (do this first). Disconnect power before performing any maintenance.

regards.

When filled with water & put on to boil it start's boiling as normal then after 10 or 20 secs.the lights inside flicker off and the kettle ceases to boil then the lights flicker back on and boiling...

I think you would only solve this problem by cleaning the thermostat contacts, or replacing the thermostat which wouldn't be worthwhile as it's likely to be cheaper to buy a new kettle.
Besides this , just getting into the kettle needs special 3 tongue screwdriver and then a certain technique to open it up without damaging the plastic parts. Im'e afraid its a throw-away world now and its not good .

Fan does not cut off when thermostat is on automatic

Continuous fan when thermostat is in automatic means one of 2 things...

a stuck blower relay/timer or a safety is open resulting in onstop fan. If all other functions work, and the this is a new issue, then the relay controlling the fan is welded shut.

On some units it is a relay built on the circuit board. Others, like an electric furnace can have a stand alone relay bad.

Either way....something is telling t to run like a safety....or the relay is stuck.

The power switch light on my kettle comes on but it wont boil

1. Check the continuity on the power switch
2. Check to see if any thermal cut-out is open circuit
3. Check to see if the element has gone open circuit.

Any open circuit indicates the part will require replacing. Given the cost of the kettle, if the element has gone open circuit it may be worth considering replacing the kettle itself.

Shuts off

Does the unit shut off only before the water boils, or does it shut off and on periodically? I just fixed my friend's WK200 Braun kettle. His would shut off and on, eventually coming to a boil. During normal operation, when you press the switch, it is connected to a rod which at its other end (ie the bottom of the kettle) is able to close the circuit allowing the current to pass through the heating element. In my friend's case, the contact had become weak - I just had to slightly bend the metal pole a little bit to provide a better contact when the switch was depressed. To repair the unit, I only needed a couple of torx screwdrivers and a voltmeter to measure continuity. (note, if you bend the metal pole too much, then the circuit will always be closed even when the switch is OFF - make sure you test for an open circuit when the switch is OFF)

Brokem switch on bodum kettle,

The problem with your bodum kettle is not the switch but the fuse that is in the bottom of the kettle. Because you cannot stop the boiler even when it is empty, the boiler overheat and burn the fuse at the bottom. You must unscrew the 3 screws at the bottom part of the kettle (not the base), then unscrew a nut that retain the fuse in a gain to the base. cut the wires and replace the fuse by a new one (less than 2 dollars on ebay). You should not exceed the temperature of the fuse(172 C) as it will melt your boiler if there is no water. Thats why you have to put a fuse. This helps me resolve my button issue with my bodum kettle.

Red light's on... but no hot water!

OK, inside the unit there are three items, the heating element, thermostat, and thermal fuse. What has happened is the element got too hot and the thermal fuse opened. There is no reset button. In some cases you may run across a defective heating element or thermostat but its not common. The fix would probably be replacement of the thermostat and thermal fuse. For this, you would have to contact a small appliance repair center in your area.
