My freezer defrosted by itself last night and also the refrigerator was warm. I had to throw out all the food. It is running, but it does not get cold or does the freezer get cold. I put the settings on the highest in the refrigerator and the freezer. What is the problem and what should I do?

Hi,

Without seeing you unit and going by what you have described in detail, (thanks you for all this information). I would look into the sensors in the freezer. Part number WR55X10025. The unit has 4 of them, two in fridge section and two in freezer section.
I would be looking at the one on the evaporator itself as this one controls the cooling cycle and defrost of the unit. If it is out of range (this happens) this will cause either issue to happen. Either it will never go into defrost, won't complete defrost, or not run long enough to chill the unit down effectively. This is a common issue and the factory has changed vendors over the years to stop this issue from happening. Right now the sensor should have a black tip where the wires enter it, the old ones were white. If you have the white ones, I would change both in the freezer section so you are updated while your in there. This units are cheap and not difficult to change.

Hit me up if you have any further questions. I hope this helps.

FREEZER NOT FREEZING PROPERLY

There could be a large list of things that cause the freezer to warm up from the temperature it was before. The most likely reason is you probably have a defrost problem. Defrost heater, defrost thermostat and the defrost control are all things that may have failed. If your model is not a frost free let me know. Look inside freezer for a layer of frost building on the rear wall. If your refrigerator is not defrosting it will be a short time before the fresh food compartment begins to warm. To extend the time your refrigerator and freezer can keep food safe defrost by placing a bucket of hot water inside the freezer and close the door. Please place food from freezer and fresh food compartment into another refrigerator or cold storage area. By keeping doors shut as much as possible the refrigerator and freezer will last up to a week this way before defrosting again, Sea Breeze

Amana ars2464bs quit working overnight. Freezer may have been left ajar, all night. The motor is hot and a clicking sound can be heard every couple of minutes. Frige and freezer room temp.

Unplug and manual defrost This happens when warm moist air is drawn into refrigerator. It freezes as frost and confuses the motherboard or defrost timer and put a heavy strain on compressor.. You also have a defrost timer inside the fresh food compartment. It is possible you can run forward to force defrost=> 67001036 Defrost Timer turn timer with small flathead screwdriver slowly clockwise.Click Here=> ARS2464B Amana Refrigerator Control Parts List Part 711 in top left photo can be found in the control panel inside the fresh food compartment. Frigidaire White 16.5 cu. ft. Top Freezer Refrigerator (FRT17HB3)- The freezer works, the refridge portion is warm, it started last week ans seemed intermitten, we turned the cooling higher and it was fine...

Hi,

All of your cooling coils on this model are located in the freezer. If you are cold enough in the freezer your problem is air flow to the fresh food section.

- There is fan behind the back wall of the freezer, be sure that is running.

- Look for frost build up on the back wall of the freezer, if present we have a defrost problem

- look for the duct or channels between the floor and freezer and top of the refrigerator they could be blocked with ice, if so we have a drain problem.

Let me know what you find and I will help you from there.

Freezer not working

the symptoms you describe, freezer temperature rising while the fresh food section "seemed" ok, my guess is by the time you read my response, the fresh food side will be just as warm as the freezer. when the cooling pattern is similar to this, it has to do with the compressor no longer running. the compressor itself may be ok, instead the starter has failed, but i would not recommend you even attempt this yourself, as you can cause permanent damage to your compressor, property damage to your home, or electrocution hazards to your self. I would highly recommend you have a reliable refrigerator repair service at least inspect it for you.

Ice/food defrosting

I think it is the defrost cycle timer switch. When it goes bad it sticks open and runs the defrost cycle which temporarily warms the walls of the freezer. Bad thing if it sticks. It is a part that costs about $50 that you can find at an appliance parts store like Marcone. There are two screws and it just plugs in. The simplest thing. It will take you about 5 minutes.

If the fan is running you more than likely have a defrost problem.
look at the back wall of the freezer section if it is frosted up.
If it is frosted up. it's not defrosting.
There three components in this system. The defrost heater, the defrost termination stat., and the defrost timer. Newer refrigerators do not have a timer per say it is build into a electronic board usually mounted on the back of the refrigerator under a metal plate. The termination stat is the cheapest part @ $ 25.00. The heater should run @ 50.00 to 70.00. The board could be as much as 200.00 or more. If the refrigerator is over 10 years old you may wish to look into getting a replacement. Appliances are designed to start failing after 10 years old.
My opinion.
If you unplug the refrigerator let it defrost then plug it back in. it will work properly about 3 days before it frosts back up.
Hope this helps
