Question about Canon PIXMA iP4300 InkJet Photo Printer

The new #5 black cartridge prints an almost solid quarter " line over everything. I bought another new cartridge and it did the same thing. I've had this printer two years and have not had this problem before. Thanks, Dianna

Hold the resume/cancel button in until the LED blinks twice. This should print out a test page. Is the line still there? If no, try a different USB port, or reinstall your printer driver or try substituting your USB cable.

If yes, try this: open the lid, when the head moves to the center unplug the power. Remove all the ink, lift the lever on the head and remove the head. On the back of the head are small contacts. Make sure they are clean. You can use a soft cloth and a dab of windex on the cloth to gently clean the contacts on the head.
Inspect the bottom of the head. It may be pretty dirty with ink and other stuff (dust, hair, ashes). If it is, you can clean it but you must be very gentle. A good trick is to put some hot water in a saucer and set the head in the saucer for a few minutes. It's important to only get water on the bottom surface of the head (where the dirty ink is). After soaking, gently pat it dry with some paper towel or a soft cloth you don't mind getting dirty. Inspect it again. If you see any scratches on the bottom of the head it may be the cause of the problem. Reinstall the head in the printer and reinstall the ink cartridges. Plug it back in, turn the power on and retest it. If the printer still has the line, you may have a bad head. In a small number of cases this can also be caused by a bad board in the printer. If you decide it's definitely the printer after cleaning the head, you can either check if you have a local Canon service center or you can check into replacing it.

A technique to improve print quality is to try and clean the cartridge nozzles. You may clean the cartridge by following the steps given below:
1. Go to the "Lexmark solution center." This can be done by clicking on "Start," go to "Programs" and Lexmark printer group. Click on the "Lexmark Solution center." Next click on the "Maintenance" Tab.
2. Select "Clean and Fix Horizontal streaks." Click on "Print". This will produce a printed page.
The colors that you should see here are black, yellow, magenta (a reddish purple) and cyan (a dark sky blue). You should notice the diagonal lines above and below the solid horizontal lines. These diagonal lines should be solid from left to right with no gaps.
If there are gaps in the lines or the print diminishes across the page, you should run the "Clean Print Nozzle" page a couple more times to try and clear it up. If you still have gaps at the top and bottom, you should "wick" the cartridges by following the steps given below:
1. Please open the "Solution center" again and go to the "Maintenance" Tab.
2. Select "Install color/black cartridge" and remove the cartridge or cartridges from the printer.
3. Get a damp paper towel.
4. Set the ink cartridge right side up on the damp paper towel so that the ink nozzles are against the towel and hold the cartridge in this position for about 15 seconds.
5. Now wipe the print head (on the bottom where the ink comes out) across in one direction only (left to right) until it looks clean.
6. Next dab the cartridge on the towel to make sure that the ink is flowing.
7. Snap the cartridges back into the printer.
8. On your computer, select "Old Cartridge install."
9. Repeat the "Clean Nozzle Page" one more time. If this fails to address the problem the entire procedure may need repeating.

The black keeps printing grey not solid black.....I've tried 3 new cartridges


try to clean the encoders, both of them . these are small thin plastic like material that encodes data to print head, fisrt one runs on top of a catridge holder.and the second one is cyndrical at the far left side of the catridge holder.

Make sure the printer is ON.

2. Open the print-carriage access door by lifting from the front center of the device, until the door locks into place.
The print carriage moves to the far right side of the printer.

3. Wait until the print carriage is idle and silent, and then lightly press down on a print cartridge to release it. If you are replacing the tri-color print cartridge, remove the print cartridge from the slot on the left. If you are replacing the black or photo print cartridge, remove the print cartridge from the slot on the right.

4. Pull the print cartridge toward you out of its slot.

5. If you are removing the black print cartridge in order to install the photo print cartridge, store the black print cartridge in the print cartridge protector. For more information, see Use the print cartridge protector. If you are removing the print cartridge because it is low or out of ink, recycle the print cartridge. The HP Inkjet Supplies Recycling Program is available in many countries/regions, and lets you recycle used print cartridges free of charge.

6. Remove the new print cartridge from its packaging and, being careful to touch only the black plastic, gently remove the plastic tape by using the pink pull tab.

7. Slide the new print cartridge forward into the empty slot. Push the print cartridge forward until it clicks into place.
If the print cartridge you are installing has a white triangle on its label, slide the print cartridge into the slot on the left. The label for the slot is green with a solid white triangle. If the print cartridge you are installing has a white square or a white pentagon on its label, slide the print cartridge into the slot on the right. The label for the slot is black with a solid white square and a solid white pentagon.

8. Close the print-carriage access door.

The black ink on my Brother DCP-130C won't print and it's a brand new ink cartridge. I thought it was a defected cartridge so I bought another one, same thing. The other 3 colours print ok though....


I have the same problem. Everything on the printer is working just fine. It'll do a test page just fine, so everything's working right. The %$^ thing just won't print. It makes noise like it's printing when you give it a print job, but it spits out blank pages.

Next, try this printer self-test by following the steps given below:

3. While still holding the "Paper Feed" button, press and release the "Power" button. Continue holding the "Paper Feed" button.
4. When the printer starts pulling paper, release the "Paper Feed" button. It should print a test page at this point.
5. Power the printer off, as this test is continuous.

The self-test should at least print out a set of either a solid black or solid color bars, if not both (if you have a printer with both color and black installed simultaneously). Should this test fail, please try it again without cartridges installed. If the self-test still fails to take paper in and make sounds like the carrier is moving across the paper, this is a hardware issue, and the printer will require service. If the self-test completes without any cartridges installed, run the self-test again with only a color cartridge installed (If you have both black and color cartridges, after this test, run the test again with just the black cartridge installed). If you find that either cartridge causes the self-test to fail, please let us know.

If the self-test prints, but has lines or smudges or other print quality issues, please let us know.

Lexmark z705 printing blank envelopes soft ware ok


The problem that you are experiencing is caused by the way the text is formatted in most word processing documents. By default envelopes are printed not in black, but a dark gray. This confuses the printer and causes it to use the color cartridge to process gray instead of using the black cartridge.

You can fix this problem with one of two ways:

1. Click on "Start", "Control Panel" and click on "Printers and Faxes." Right click on the "Lexmark Printer" icon and select "Properties." Click on "Printing Preferences." Go to "Quality/Copies" tab and select the option "Print color images in black and white."
2. You can also change the color of you text to a true black in your word processor. This will require you to resort to the word processor's documentation and help files.

Both of these settings will cause your printer to use the black cartridge instead of the color. If either one of these solutions solves your problem, it means your color cartridge needs to be cleaned or replaced. If you feel that the color cartridge should not be out of ink, please follow the steps given below:

Clean Nozzle Procedure:

1. Go to the "Solution Center" and click on the "Maintenance" tab.
2. Select "Clean to fix horizontal strips."

Wont print


what are you trying to print in black? the best way to test out a black ink is to open word pad and type some thing random and print it and see if that works. if you have a all in one printer u might have 2 inks one color and one black in the printer

Clean the print nozzles as follows:
  1. Go to Start, Programs, Lexmark, Lexmark Solution Center (or Lexmark Control Program) and select the Cartridges tab.
  2. Select Cartridge Nozzles (or Clean Print Nozzles).
  3. Check the diagonal lines above and below the solid horizontal lines. The diagonal lines should be continuously solid from left to right, with no gaps.
  4. If there are gaps at the top that diminish at the bottom, run the Clean Print Nozzle page a few more times. If the gaps are gone, the Clean Print Nozzle page has probably resolved the problem.
  5. If the gaps still exist, you should unblock ("wick") the cartridges. See How to Unblock/Wick the Cartridge Nozzles.
