I think I have the linkage on right now but when I crank up the lawnmower it runs like its stuck wide open and smokes bad and gas goes all in the carb and then it shuts off. I had the carb rebuilt and new float in it. could it be that thing that screws in the bottom of the carb with the wire on it? It is attached to the bottom of the carb where the float is.

Please tell me the make and HP of the engine, and weather or not it is OHV. Also, if you can find the engine model number I would be better, however I can give you the information you need with the Brand, HP and if it is OHV or not. Also, is it V twin or single piston.

Posted on Oct 15, 2010

  • Don Reiman Oct 16, 2010

Okay. that makes it real easy. Thank you.

Here is the parts breakdown of the engine, which will include how everything goes together on the engine.

Also here is the manual as well.

Hope this gives you all the information you need.

  • Don Reiman Oct 16, 2010

I'm sorry the information needed was not in that diagram. All I can find for your tractor on sears website is thishttp://www.searspartsdirect.com/partsdir...

Sears does not offer any other diagrams for that tractor, and there is nothing for the linkage. As well there are no additional repair guides available for that tractor. \

I am sorry I could not be of more help.

I can probably help you and provide you with a manual source for your engine but.... I really need to know your exact engine number. EVERYTHING due to the fact that even serial numbers can make a difference in what linkages are used and how they connect. I will work with you on this until it is corrected.

Just pass this

ENGINE NUMBER (no short cuts i need everything)

If the engine is Briggs and Stratton I need the Type-Model-Series (Usually on the Air Shroud)

If the engine is a Honda or Kohler the Engine numbers will be on the engine block and or Cylinder head depending on engine size. Bigger engines the numbers are also on the cylinder head.

Kawasaki the numbers will be on a data plate.

Thanks,

Kelly

Take a look at the HUGE 15 + Mb Service manual and see if your engine is in there. The service manual is for your engine per B & S

Take a look at this link page 23

items 216, 232 and 201 at the top of the page.

    http://ipl.ordertree.com/ipl/45/91725652...

Items 201 and 232 go from the top of the governor arm Item 227 page 20 to the carb butterfly / throttle control Item 131 page 21.

I just had an extensive post disappear so here goes for part 2

    Using this manual

    http://www.mymowerparts.com/pdf/Briggs%2...

Governor linkage Page 94 figure 15

Figure 43 page 81 for throttle and choke linkage

    Also page 84 figure 53

Just note the long spring connection is below the eye on the governor linkage

This should be what you need.

Since there has been no further communication, I have to assume that the information provided solved your linkage issue. Take care.

Hi again, Click on the link I sent you and it will open in explorer. There will be a pause while the file loads depending on your net speed but it will open. Then in the box by the arrows type in the page number of my post and hit enter. Then scroll down to the figures. The pictures are self explanatory.

You should be able to connect your linkages just by looking at (or printing out) the figures. When you get to the page you want just choose Print screen if necessary. Make sure you have what you want to see in view.

The link that I sent you that is 15.2 MB in size has the diagram of the linkages. Why you have not looked at it to date kind of baffles me. The FixYa site is saying your question is locked to another expert so, I have to assume your not looking at anything I have passed to you. Let me know by replying to ANY of my posts. At that point I will get an email from FixYa telling me you responded.

Below is a copy of the email sent to you

In response to FixYa thread: http://www.fixya.com/support/t6308500-cr...

Hi, Just so you know my responding directly via email can get me a 30 day suspension from the FixYa site. I did do a BCC copy of this email to FixYa so I may have sealed my own fate. After seeing all the trouble you were having trying to get what you needed and for some reason NOT downloading the manual I responded to you with on the FixYa site via this link:

    http://www.mymowerparts.com/pdf/Briggs%2...

I am a bit frustrated because I sent the link to the manual with pictures in a service manual and referenced the figure and page number that is now part of the attachment. This is exactly what you need.

Attached is a word document with the linkage picture. I tried several times to post the picture on the FixYa site but all the needed detail was lost when the picture size was shrunk to post it.

Any future correspondence must be via the FixYa website and NOT via personal email.

    Thanks again for choosing FixYa,

It is showing the question closed. The solenod shuts off fuel. Your problem is the float level is too high. You need to adjust the tab on the float (bend up) so that fuel shuts off when the float is level. Also running wide open means the governor linkage is incorrect or.. a spring for the governor is incorrectly installed.

I believe you need to request these from craftsman. I along with many other experts here have been searching for this for days, nothing is turning up.

Do you need Craftsman's number?

Hello there, it shows you rated my answer poorly here, I would be glad to help but please confirm that you want it...? I think this question is technically closed, I'd still be glad to help but please let me know what is going on here. Did you mean to rate my answer only 2 thumbs up?

  • Tim Grayson
    Tim Grayson Oct 24, 2010

Strange, if possible please see if you can change the rating, do you see where it shows the 2 thumbs up portion next to my name above all of our "conversation" here? See if you can click to change that to 4 thumbs up.... let me know if you still need help by the way, but please see if you can adjust that in the mean time. - Thanks - Tim

I don't have a gas tank for you but am in need of a little assistance myself. I brought my mower to a service dealer who screwed me. He took the carburetor off, told me the lawnmower was junk and left me with it. I bought a new carb from B&S (Nikki) but don't know how the linkages hook up. B&S service is useless. Are you willing to look at yours and walk me through the three linkages? Jim 508.432.6482
