Question about Dell Latitude D600 Notebook
That can indicate one of three things: the ac adapter has gone bad, the battery has gone bad, or the charger assembly on your motherboard has gone bad. Here's how to determine which is which: If you have a spare ac adapter, test and see if your system is charging with it instead of the one you normally use. If it still flashes red, you've eliminated the AC adapter. Next is the battery. Remove the battery. On one of the sides will be a button with a small gauge- if it shows a none-serial pattern of dots (for instance off on on on or off on off on) you may have a bad battery. If it shows no dots- then it's a tossup- either your battery or the charger board. At that point, if you are in warranty still- contact Dell technical support to get either a tech to your location or your laptop sent to depot for repairs. If it is not, try purchasing another battery first- if it still has problems, then it's the charger board- At that point, you can purchase a replacement board from Dell spare parts, find a reputable laptop repairperson that could do the same, or try Ebay or other sites for the part.
