Unable to print with lexmark s405 printer scanner ,printer does not recognise computer

How is the printer connected to your computer? Wireless or hardwired with the USB cable? If wireless, what is the status of the WiFi light on the printer?

A quick fix for most communication errors can be achieved by resetting the printer and/or rebooting the PC. Frequently, issues are caused simply by a break in the signal sent from PC to printer or vice versa. Unplugging and re-plugging the printer allows the small amount of on-board memory on the printer to be cleared, with the result that the PC recognizes the machine properly. Programs continuing to run in the background of the operating system (OS) can cause the signal to be lost. Rebooting the PC ends all programs that may be running and makes a 'clean' start, allowing the signal to be detected.

It could also be a firewall issue. Make sure to allow full access to all Lexmark software and printer communication processes in the program rules/permissions for your firewall.

I have an HP Photosmart 5 years old and no trouble till now. Got Check colour cartridge error 3/4 weeks ago, downloaded full feature software drivers form hp site and fixed it. yesterday got message again....

The reset that you have done is called semi full reset. And when you do that and the printer is connected wirelessly, it will be disconnected to your router. But if your connected hardwire you just have to add devices on the printers and faxes window. Since you have already installed the software successfully the only problem is getting it connected to the computer or router(if the printer is capable of wireless connection). Try running the downloaded software again and there should be an option that will ask you if you would like to add a printer. From there just follow the instructions and the software will be the one to connect the printer to your computer. Hope this helps. Send me a personal message if this would not help you. I just have to be certain if you have a wireless or hardwire connection.

I am attempting to scan a document with my X4650 without success. The copy function works with no problems. I have used the scan function to my computer on numerous previous occassions without problems.

How is your printer connected to your computer, wireless or hardwired with a USB cable? If wireless, check the status of the WiFi light on the printer (green = connected to a network, orange = not connected to a network). Try to turn off/on your printer. Doing this usually fixes minor communication issues. This article in the Lexmark website might also help resolve your scan problem: No Communications Error When Trying to Print or Scan.

My printer and pc have stopped communicating. The message on my computer tells me to choose a printer. I click on the Lexmark and it says ready but there is no location and I can't click on anything else.

What is the operating system of your computer? How is the printer connected to your computer, wireless or hardwired via the USB cable? Make sure the print spooler of your computer is enabled.

The Simple Network Configuration capabilities of Mac OS® X can only find devices in the local network segment. If your Macintosh® and devices are not in the same network segment or are connected via a router, you cannot use the Simple Network Configuration capabilities of Mac OS® X.

In these cases, I recommend you use IP printing.

Sometimes this problem occures when you install a later model wireless router.
Try installing the latest Wireless card driver on the XP computer and the LAN card drivers on the other computers except the MAC.

HP Photosmart C7280 wireless connection

My experience is different. My DSL router died in the night and I had to install the old one. I just changed the wireless settings on my C7280, and now all three connections work. If no wire (ethernet or USB) is connected, the wireless connection works. If the Ethernet cable is connected, it works via Ethernet, and if the USB cable is connected, it works via USB. It seems to default in that order.
