check here how

Remove all the cartridges, clean the Gold contact points on the cartridges and on the printer using soft brush/cotton dipped in alcohol/acetone /spirit. Never touch the Gold contacts with your hand/fingers. To clean the head, catch a cotton bud and dampen it with water, wipe the head very gently and lightly. Be careful, never give a push or hard pressure, just clean it very lightly, otherwise you may damage the Head and will never be usable.

What a great solution! Throw it in the landfill. What the hell- we wont be around when the next generation is up to their necks in waste. Or we can ship it all to the poor countries- that have no recourse. THEY can wade around in our trash! That's right buy more plastic then just throw it away. Don't even attempt to fix it or keep it running. Just call it "modern world" and that makes it OK-even a good thing to do.
Has anyone done the math on this? If 5 million people in the US throw a printer into the landfill every three years, what do we have? In 10 short years we have 15 MILLION printers, let alone computers, faxes, scanners, phones, cell phones. Maybe you could at least support the IDEA of keeping something for more than 3 years.

Your printer needs some manual servicing.
It's advised that you leave it for a qualified technician to do that.
From the problem you described, the encoder sensor may be causing this problem.
