SOURCE: Toast Master Toaster TP409

if you mean the toast itself doesn't toast on one side, check that both heating elements have about the same resistance value. One could be twice as conductive as the other and not heat as much as the other side.
If you mean the other two slots don't toast, the problem could be in the switch or in the elements themselves. check carefully the continuity of the toaster across the (unplugged) ac power connector while you push the toaster load handle down on each side. If the resistance is significantly larger on the problem side, the problem is either the switch or the elements. The problem is usually with the switch becoming corroded or oxidized. The switch is supposed to be self-cleaning, that is, it wipes itself as contact is made to help remove buildup. Sandpaper both contacts until they shine copper colored. Otherwise look at the elements while toasting. dark areas mean lower wattage is being dissipated and the element may be bad near a dark spot.

SOURCE: I have a Phillips toaster. It has been working

it sounds like the magnetic coil which holds the lever down to the toast position has burned out. you probably can't get the part for repairing it as it would be too costly

SOURCE: I changed the element in my Dualit toaster; still doesn't work

If I understand well the blackened wire is an overheated wire which it is probably but off in one point so no electricity comes to the element anymore.
However overheated wire in you metalic toaster is a very danger thing to have and need to replace all the wires you have noticed that they changed color or not look good contition.
The problem have been caused from a problematic element which is the one you have already replaced.
However you if after you replace the wires you need to inspect the toaster after some time in order to be sure that not any other element causing the problem.
Good luck.

SOURCE: I have a 4 slice

The toast carriage is held down by an electro-magnet, not by any type of physical clasp or hook.

So the most frequent problem with elector-magnet is due to the heat some wire or springs become loose so the electro-magnet is not working properly so it does not stay down.

Another reason that electro-magnet not work properly is due to bread remaining does not leave the lector-magnet contacts to contact. You should clean between where the metal of the Electrical contact meet each other.

My black & decker tro964 is not heating

That may sound like a stupid question, but is it plugged in?
Have you tried to plug in the toaster on a different power outlet?
If there is a ground fault switch where the toaster is plugged in (that's those outlets which have 2 buttons on the front, one labeld "Test" the other usually labeled "Reset") unplug the toaster and push the "Reset" button and try the toaster again. To test, if the power outlet, were the toaster is usually plugged in, is working, try a hair dryer or any other device on that outlet.
Its most likely cheaper to replace the whole toaster than to replace the heating elements, for about 40 $ since that's the price of your toaster on some websites.

Toaster no longer heats. Can I purchase the heating element and install myself?

mcdevito75 here, Chances are the heating elements are soldered in on the toaster and may take special tools to fix, if the heating elements sre burned out, maybe better to get another toaster.

The heating elements don't come on.The timer is working as you can hear the clicks but that's about all.

We had the same problem. I took off the bottom plate, cleaned the toaster, reseated all of the connectors on the heating plates, timer, and switch, and the toaster started working again. Only one connector was slightly loose (but it was still connected with decent contact). I am not sure what fixed it. If that did not work, my next step was to purchase replacement parts online and swapping out the switch, timer, and heating plates (in that order).

How do a toaster heatingelement work

The toaster heating element converts electricity in to heat energy through the process of Joule heating effect. the electric current flowing through the element encounters electric resistance, resulting in heating of the element.

Toaster will not heat

If your timer works but no heat and you think you may have goten water inside the toaster area.. chances are you've dislodged the heating element itself. If you shorted it out, you would probably take out your circuit breaker or fuse from the receptacle that provides power. If you are relatively handy, UNPLUG it, then look at where the heating element penetrates the oven compartment to see if it looks normal ( meaning that it is passing thru the wall of the oven ok) then check the other side ( you may have to remove a cover) to see if the wires providing power to that element are still attached. To be honest, I do not know this particular brand that well but it does sound like a fundamental problem that should be easily addressed. Good luck..

Heating elements

I think this is a common problem with these kind of toaster ovens. Mine isn't a Toastmaster - mine is Cook's Essentials (from QVC), and my upper elements have also warped and split, although mine are curved downwards.
