It is perfectly normal for the refr door on a side by side Subzero to stick out a little further than the freezer door. That light could mean several things. If you have vacuumed the condenser then you should call a repairman to look at it.

Tip

What do do if your fridge/freezer is not cold

5 reasons for fridge and/or freezer getting warm:
1- the evaporator coils are icing up and won’t let air circulate.
2- the evaporator fan is not working to circulate air.
3- there is no refrigerant in the system.
4- no power to fridge or compressor.
5- the condenser coils have no air circulation

check under the fridge behind the vent. if it is too dusty or the fan isn’t working, it is not getting enough airflow to cool down. replace fan and/or vacuum out the dust.

if there is no power to the fridge, the light will be off. if the compressor is not running, there is a defrost timer that cuts the power temporarily to the compressor to melt ice on the coils. it’s located under the fridge behind the bottom vent. If the timer is off and the compressor is not going, the compressor or the main board is bad and needs replacing. there is also a temperature sensor on the evaporator coils that tells the defrost coil to turn on and when to turn off. if the defrost timer is on but the coil is not heating up, replace the sensor. if it still won’t heat up, it’s the timer or the coil.

the easiest way to tell if there is no refrigerant- the freezer wall is warm and the compressor is loud. if there is no refrigerant, it may be more cost effective to replace the fridge.

if you feel no air coming from the freezer vent, the fan needs replacing. If you feel air moving in the freezer but not the fridge, the channel from freezer to fridge is blocked.

if the freezer has air and the rear freezer wall has frost on it, the evaporator coils are iced up and need defrosting. causes:
1. low refrigerant
2. no fan
3. too much humid air in fridge/freezer due to door open or bad door seals
4. the condensate drain tube is clogged
5. defrost cycle not functioning properly

if the seal around the door is ripped or not completely sealing, or there is condensation at the bottom or the walls of the fridge, replace the seal(s).

no air, no fan. Replace

if the refrigerant is low, it just needs a top off. but you need to be certified by the epa to move refrigerant, so get a professional.

there defrost cycle starts with the timer. at a certain time of day for a specific time, the timer turns the compressor off and turns on the heater element located at the bottom of the evaporator coil. this stays on until the coil temp sensor reaches a certain temperature to let the timer know that the coils are defrosted and turns off the power to the element. the defrosted water drains to the condensate pan. if the timer is bad, it will never go into defrost, or never get out of it. if the element is bad, the coils will never defrost. if the temp sensor is bad, it’ll go into defrost, but it will either tell the timer that it’s always frozen or already defrosted, resulting in the element never turning on (stays frosted) or never turning off (eventually burning out the element).

MOST LIKELY FRIDGE SECTION IS LOW ON FREON! "VACUUM CONDENSER" WILL COME ON IF COMPRESSOR RUNS MORE THAN IT SHOULD BE. COMMON THING IS LEAKING EVAPORATOR COILS IN FRESH FOOD SECTION. CHECK MY VIDEO, I HOPE IT HELPS.

i would call a tech in for this,sub zeros are not like regular machines,the freezer and fridge have their own components,it's like two machines in one,whenever i've seen the vac condenser it's ussually a freon leak in the fridge evap coil so i would have to think you could have a freon leak in the freezer section,usually the bottom copper loop rots out,your talking about a machine that costs almost 10,000 dollars or more,if it is a leak i think you're covered for the first 12 years on the sealed system,you can do a few checks,look at the door gasket,does it have any rips or does it look damaged in any way,also i've seen the light switch stick and the lights stay on when the door is closed and heats up the freezer,open the freezer door and push the door switches in and out and see if the lights go out,but other than that i would call a tech in to repair your sub zero,i know if you do have a leak in the system it's could be close to a grand or more to repair and you need all the tools to do the repair.

Hello. My freezer part of my subzero 690 is getting too cold. The temperature has dropped to -8. My normal setting is zero. I tried raising the setting to +5 with no effect. I tried turning the whole...

check u tube for problem solving videos.

There are a number of great troubleshooting u tube videos, which show you what to look for and many of the fixes are really simple and are universal for all fridges. The simplest is that you left a door open, moisture got in and froze causing ice to build up, so you have to thaw it totally, not just turn it off. I moved my older subzero and think one of the tubes must have been knocked and it lost its Freon, so stopped cooling. The cost of having it recharged was so prohibitive (ie environmental disposal issue meant it had to be moved to a special location fixed and moved back at my expense or Subzero said it was a closed unit and you had to replace the whole thing$ 1,300 for the condenser alone) so, I tossed it + bought another used one until my renovation was done.

Generally with any fridge, there seems to be 2 possible Simple reasons:
1. DEFROST MODE PROBLEM it is stuck in defrost mode
. a)the defrosting tube is plugged

b)The tube or thermostat is frozen, most likely because someone left the door open or the seal is poor;

c) termostat defective-untube video explained how to test circuit;
4. CONDENSER ISSUES: the condenser coolant gas is low and can be easily recharged- see the u tube how to video;
5. Condenser is dirty and cannot breathe- vacuum it;
6. The condenser overheated and needs replacing . 4-6 will have the condenser blowing cool not warm air.

I have had this problem with the fridge portion of my SUBZERO bottom freezer and Subzero (and a repair person ) gave me some good advice, which should also apply to yours, but you might want to call them yourself:
1. Simplest fix- if the defrost tube is blocked or frozen, the defrost cycle will stick on preventing cooling (either freezing up or heating for the defrost cycle not cooling); Some subzero models are especially prone to this. I could see part of my tube inside the fridge on the back wall close to the bottom where it drains and removed the panels to expose and clean it;
2. You should pull it out and unplug it to get it to defrost fully. After doing that once, I made sure my fridge was on a separate circuit or switched!! Yours might not be the same, but on mine the tubes run through the fridge to get to the freezer so both parts have to defrost;
3. Subzero fridge and freezer each have their own independent condensers, so you might be hearing the condenser for the fridge running, even though one part is turned off.
4. Check the thermostat to see if it is working. There is a good u tube video on this.
5 Some of the u tube videos show how to "recharge" the Freon. Subzero told me these are sealed units and could not be done, so regardless of the problem, the condenser had to be replaced. The subzero repair person was really helpful + checked the Freon or gas level (Mine was old enough that it was Freon not the newer environmental stuff) so they would have to haul it away to drain and recharge it + then the condenser might still have to be replaced.

Good luck

Joan

Subzero refrigerator is not cold. freezer is fin

you could have a leak in the sealed system,most likely the evap coil.in the fridge section,is there any ice on the left side back wall?look at the back wall on the left side around 12 inches up from the bottom draws,if there's ice there you have a freeon leak and you'll need it replaced.look at your warranty,i believe the sealed system is under warrany for the first 12 years and it's around 650 dollars to do the job.there are two compressors,one for the freezer and one for the fridge.also open the door,you'll see tow switches on top,push them in,does the lights go out and the fan come on,i've seen the light switches stick,the lights stay on and the fridge gets very warm.how old is it?if it's digital is it saying to clean the coil or anything like this?

Subzero 590: freezer works, refrigerator not cooling

This is a Sub Zero and many technicians do not realize that these units most all run on 2 separate systems. 2 cold controls 2 compressors 2 evaporators. They share a condenser and condenser fan motor. What you are describing is most likely a bad cold control. It is pretty common for these to get some age and go bad. If you are very savvy with repairs yourself then if you access the compressor area and feel that the compressor on the right is cool and the compressor on the left is warm then you know that the ref. compressor has not been running. UNPLUG THE UNIT OR CUT THE BREAKER OFF. Remove the shelving from the fresh food section and the cover to the lights and the panel below the lights and lean the back panel forward to access the cold control. You will see 3 wires to the cold control. The green wire is the ground wire of corse. Unplug the other 2 wires remembering their location on the control unit. Take a jumper wire and jump these 2 wires. If when you power the unit up the right side compressor comes on then you know that your fresh food cold control is bad. Replace fresh food cold control.

Sub Zero isn't cold enough

Sounds like it might just be a simple as a dirty coil. Use a coil brush (you can get at homedepot)

cdda64b.jpg Clean the dust and from the back and bottom of the fridge. The coils pickup alot of dust over time making the fridge become ineffecent. One some subzero units your condenser coils are on top. Use the brush in conjuction with the vacuum to get it clean and watch your fridge for a hours to see if that helps before you call a repair tech out. Make sure you unplug the fridge when your doing this.

Fridge side not cooling, Freezer side is....

(After trying FixYa and paying for the premium service -- during which error codes were not even discussed) I called a service tech. Turns out it was the fan above the fridge side (which explains why the freezer was still working fine) that was "humming" but not always spinning. A quck swap of the fan and we were back in business.

FYI -- The SubZero tech said it was very uncommon for the fans to go bad.
