Question about Dyson DC07 Animal Bagless Upright Cyclonic Vacuum

1 Answer

When I engage the beater roller it will work for a short time (15-20 seconds) and then squeel loudly as if something is not engaging properly. I checked the roller ends and cleaned them but it seems to roll freely by hand while connected to the belt and then at a time it becomes very hard to turn by hand.

Sounds to me that the motor is shot. There is a main bearing the belt shaft connects to and it sounds like the bearing is seazing and gets worse when it nheats up. Soon it wont turn anymore at all ,once it siezes completely. These are rarely worth fixing so after being in the vacuum business I would recommend buying somthing new and a cannister not an up right! good luck

D.C. 17 makes a loud whining noise when beater brushes are engaged. Normal sound until then. Replaced belt. Still so loud it hurts my ears!

Could be the brush roll, remove brush roll and see if noise is still there when brush roll motor is running.

Replaced drive belt for beater bar, but now beater bar motor will not engage/turn on.

The most likely problem is something was not put back together properly in the clutch. You can move the belts by hand with the clutch out of the machine. Move the motor belt and switch the lever off and on and see if the brush belt is turning on and off. It not you will need to take the clutch apart and reassemble it. Test it before installing.

The brush roller will not engage although the belts look good. Hoover upright windtunnel.

Sounds like the beater brush is frozen and won't turn. Remove the beater brush and clean off all debris, especially at both ends. You will find a square(?) piece at each end of the beater brush that holds it in place. This need to turn freely. Put a little WD40 on these where the center rod of the beater brush enters the small holders and turn by hand until they turn freely. Once this is done, assemble with new belt, making sure the belt is put on properly.

Bare floor selection still rotates brushes

Your switch should have 2 different on positions. One for simple suction and one to engage the beater. The setting without the beater being engaged should be first position from off and the beater would be second position

WHEN I TURN MY VACUME ON IT SOUNDS FINE, WHEN UPRIGHT. WHEN I GO TO MOVE IT TO HOOVER IT MAKES A SCREAMING NOISE. CAN U TELL ME WHAT IS WRONG PLEASE AND HOW TO FIX. THANK YOU

When the vaccum is upright, the beater bar is not engaged. When you tilt the handle back, the clutch engages and the beater bar begins to turn.

There are two likely possibilities for the "screaming noise". First, and most likely, is that the beater bar cannot turn because of a build up of debris or the beater bar is broken. In eaither case, the clutch belt is spinning on the non-moving beater bar causing the noise. Remove the beater bar, inspect for hair, carpet fibers or other items wrapped around the bar. Also inspect for cracks in the plasitc at the ends of the bar. Clean or replace the bar as needed.

The second possible cause is the clutch assembly. If you were unable to fix the problem with the first solution, it is time to take the vacuum in for service as replacing the clutch is somewhat difficult.

Here is a YouTube video link that will walk you through the process of removing the beater bar as well as the clutch if you decide to go it on your own: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7_CtaFcc5HU

Hope this helps.

Beater bar motor will not engage

Check your clutch to make sure it's engaged. There should be a knob on the foot of the vacuum that can be turned to stop the roller.

Beater not turning

IT SOUNDS LIKE A ROLLER PROBLEM. REMOVE THE ROLLER COVER AND THEN REMOVE THE ROLLER. TAKE OFF THE ROLLER ENDS. ONE OF THE ENDS PROBABLY HAS SOME MELTED PLASTIC IN IT FROM A BUILD UP OF HAIR OR SOMETHING. SCRAP OUT AND REINSTALL THE ROLLER. GOOD LUCK.
