A low tech solution worked for me.

I too was getting the "Vent Fan Off" message, and despite the fact that everything else worked fine with the microwave, I turned the breaker off and back on from my electrical panel. The fan works fine now.

Bosch hmt8656gb microwave doesn't always start

The problem is in the keypad control board and usually means it must be replaced to fix the problem, and the part alone is expensive.

Buttons don't work

Hello there
Normally this is a sign of the controle pad malfunctioning wich is very common you will have to replace the controle pad
If you have your warranty still use it
If not the pad can be replaced it will cost about 30 dollars for the part and if a repairman does the job ait will cost about 80 dollars for him to do the job
ok
Best regards richard

The keypad does not work. The display screen says "Press -----k". I'm assuming it's telling me to press clock to set time. But none of the keys work when I press any. Earlier only the Start/Pause key...

try powering down for 30 seconds. if that doesn't work the keypad is shorted or open. do not spray cleaner directly onto key pad when cleaning. it will short it out. rather spray cleaner onto a rag then wipe.

Microwave key pad stopped working

Okay, thank you for that.

You have a failed membrane keypad, but on this model, it is not available separately.

You would need to order the control panel assembly, part # WB56X10817, which you can get here for far less than GE charges.

It costs more than just a membrane would, but is much simpler to replace.

At our Web site, we have a video available showing how to remove a typical over the range control panel assembly in under 5 minutes.

Then you remove your circuit board from the old frame and install it in the new frame.

Keypad only works

This is usually caused by either a bad door switch, a loose door switch mount, or a problem on the control panel.

Even though a door switch clicks, it may still be bad inside.

This can be caused by slamming the door or by habitually opening the door while it's cooking without hitting the Stop pad first.

If you or a friend decide to look into it, we have critical information on safety, disassembly and door switches at our site, and our link is at our listing here on FixYa: http://tinyurl.com/yzjozk

G.E. Spacesaver Microwave - Keypad Won't Work

The first thing to try is a "hard reset". Unplug it from the power line for a few minutes, plug it back in, set the clock, then try again.

You may have a problem with the keypad or the control unit (circuit board / smart board).

We repair these on a regular basis. Details and *critical* safety, disassembly, and troubleshooting info is at our site, which is linked at our listing here on FixYa: http://tinyurl.com/yzjozk

Please write back with more details if you need further help.

Touch-pads unresponsive

Some newer models have a child lock feature which can be accessed via a HELP or CUSTOM HELP pad. On recent LG models, try pressing the "0" key for 5 seconds. You may also have a bad keypad, which in many cases can be replaced. A bad keypad may be worn out due to age, damaged, or it may have gotten wet or otherwise contaminated. Has anyone ever sprayed cleaner directly on the keypad? Has anyone ever boiled on the stovetop without running the hood vent fan? Is the hood vent clogged? Any of these can cause moisture buildup on the control circuit board or in the keypad, which can cause odd problems like this. I warn my customers to never spray cleaner directly onto the microwave keypad, since the liquid can get inside and "lock up" or even ruin the keypad or controller. Apply an alcohol-based cleaner (such as the purple kind) to a cloth (since paper towels can scratch) and gently wipe it off. I suggest to my customers that they NEVER use any ammonia-based cleaner (like the blue stuff) on a microwave, since the ammonia will crack and distort polycarbonate plastics. Mircowave works, exhaust door opens, fan stop working

From looking at the owner's manual, it looks like the vent fan is only supposed to come on when the internal temperature of the microwave gets too high OR when you press the VENT FAN pad. Here are a couple of fan-related excerpts from the owner's manual, which can be found here: http://products.geappliances.com/ProdContent/Dispatcher?REQUEST=SKUOBJECTS&DOCUMENT=Use%20and%20Care%20Manual&SKU=JVM1840BD (or the better URL here: http://tinyurl.com/yn7r6g) Automatic Fan An automatic fan feature protects the microwave from too much heat rising from the cooktop below it. It automatically turns on if it senses too much heat. If you have turned the fan on, you may find that you cannot turn it off. The fan will automatically turn off when the internal parts are cool. It may stay on for 30 minutes or more after the cooktop and microwave controls are turned off. - Vent Fan The vent fan removes steam and other vapors from surface cooking. Press VENT FAN once for high fan speed, twice for medium fan speed, a third time for low faw speed, or a fourth time to turn the fan off. Press the VENT FAN BOOST pad for extra fan speed. - Hope this helps.
