I have the same problem. This is what I discovered. Open the front cover where the toner goes in. Pull out the toner cartridge. If you look inside the opening on the left and right side walls about 2 inches in you will see a bronze colored spring. This spring is held in place by a little plastic arm. The little plastic arm that holds the spring in place broke on the left side. This spring puts pressure on the metal roller on the front bottom of the toner cartridge. Lack of spring pressure on one side of the roller causes the paper to be fed skewed. I tried taking out the other spring but all i get is paper jams. Know I need to figure out to the replace the inside left panel or make a make-shift retainer for the spring.

I want to test printer with no conection to the PC only test page. What buttons Can I press for to print test page directly of printer?

Hi, you can't print a test page directly from the printer, but since it's a copier also, you can copy a page of text or graphics to make sure everything prints okay. Just place a piece of paper on the glass and press either the black or color copy button. (The computer must be on to make a copy.)

2 lines print on the page.. one on the left edge and that other is about inch and quarter in from the 1st one...

Is this just for copying? Or do you have the machine connected to your PC as a printer? If it is just copying then try making a copy from the glass. If the lines go away then this means you need to clean the strip glass which is located just to the left of the large main glass. If the glass copy still has lines then print out the meter count sheet by pressing user tools/counter then at the lower right corner of the screen press "print counter list" then press the print key. If lines on this sheet are still present then you likely have wear lines or grooves in the surface of the drum and may need the PCU/Drum Unit replaced or rebuilt.
Good Luck and Thank You for using Fixya.

Copies come out with gray streaks all the way through the entire page

if you are copying through the feeder check the small glass under the lid has not got any typex or ink stuck to it you check by placing a copy on the glass under the lid and do a copy here.. if no streaks apear then check the glass area.. also if you are printing to it and no streaks appear this area is the cause.. if it happens on teh print side too then you have a drum /dev wear issue and it may need replacing.

Black line down page when in COPY mode on MFC-240C

You need to poiwer cycle after cleaning as the scanner only calibrates during power up. If all is clean, even the white bar over the small glass assembly, and you power cycle the machine and it's still there, you will need a new scan assembly.

HOW DO YOU CORRECT A SKEWED COPY ON THE COPIER? HAVE CHANGED REGISTRATION ROLLERS, SKEW IS SAME FROM ALL TRAYS & BYPASS. TRIED ADJUSTING THE FOCAL LENGTH ON THE MIRRORS, AND STILL HAS ABOUT 1/8 INCH...

First you need to determine if it is optical skew or mechanical skew.
If the machine is used as a printer then do the computer prints come out skewed? If it is not connected to a PC then print out the counter list using UserTools/Counter. If that prints straight then you are dealing with optical skew. Ricoh's in general are bad about the left front corner of the machine drooping from someone pushing down on that corner. If you have optical skew try lifting up the left front corner of the copier and try making a copy. That might fix your problem.
If the UserTools/Couter print out is skewed then your back to a mechanical skew and there are numerous causes for that.
The optical skew is more likely so let's start there.

Line on the sheet when I copy.

Hello,
Most likely the scanner glass is dirty. You may have a very small speck on th scanner glass under the document feeder. When this happens a line will apear down the page that has been scanned/copied.
Even if you cannot see anything on the "****" Glass clean it anyway and check it from different angels of light and this should do the trick

If it's scan and copy only and not when you send a job from the computer your solution is easy to remedy. Try going into the menu located on the printer to info menu. Scroll down to conguration page and click the check button. When the printer prints, if the line is not on the page you simply have ink or white-out on the scan glass for the ADF (auto doc feeder).

To clean the ADF glass, lift the top lid to expose the glass. There are two peices, 1 large full size and one strip peice. If your getting the line when using the auto feeder (without lifting top) pay close attention to the strip of glass. When a document is auto-fed it moves the original past the strip of glass. A dot (pen mark or white-out) will appear as a line on your final copy.

Clean well with windex or similar glass cleaner. PUT THE CLEANER ON THE RAG THEN THE RAG TO THE GLASS. Don't spray the glass as it's easy to get it into cracks where to don't want it to fall on an electronic part or board below the glass edges. While you at it, clean all the glass.

Test by making a copy of a "BLANK" sheet of paper with one small line to give you postion clues. First by putting it on the glass. Clean everywhere on the large glass that shows a mark on the page (except the one you purposely put there). The mark will help you locate where to clean. (example - 1" below and 2" over from your intentional mark) It also helps you identify top of page from bottom.

Once that is done do the same thing using the original in the ADF. Simply measure in from the edge of the page on the copy and find the corresponding spot on the small strip of glass.

IF YOU SHOULD BE GETTING THE LINE IN ALL FUNCTIONS, PRINT, COPY MANUALLY, AND COPY WITH ADF. Check the toner cartridge, most likely black for damage on the cartidge drum. The cartridge drum can be quickly viewed by flipping the shutter open (the part with the HP logo and part number printed on it). If there is a line, replace the cartridge.

Hope that helps you. If so hit it with a FIXYA!

Thanks,

Copier problem

1. If it doesn it when you print and copy then you have toner on the laser **** glass.

2. If it does it only when you scan then you might want to check for dust buildup on the mirrors or your laser is going bad. I dont think it's the laser though.

3. A bad drum can also cause ghosting and so can a bad fuser.

Suggestion: give it a good cleaning, check the drum and fuser for wear. Make a copy and print off the counter page or something. Compare the two.
