Question about Vacuums

1 Answer

Have called hoover about brushes they are saying that it is the whole motor and would be cheaper to by a new machine altogether. What do you think? Can just the turbine be replaced and if so what is approx cost? Is this something I can do simply by myself? If so how? thanks so much, Mel

You can get just the turbine. You would have to take the top cover off to do that. They are I believe around $50-$60 for one. Take the brush block out, then remove the screws from the bottom. There will be 2 long screws, they go into the turbine. Then turn it over and remove the top, there will be 2 more screws on the front of the turbine, unhook the hoses and take it out and replace it with the new one.

Replace belt on hoover vacuum U4655

Turn the machine over and remove the 4 screws which hold the cover on the brush. Remove the cover and brush roller. Remove old belt. Slide new belt over the motor pulley, first. Then slide roller through new belt (if self propelled model, slide roller through the small belt, also) and slide brush roller into slots on housing (note: slots are different, match roller sides to correct slot.)

Motor bogged down, smelled rubber, brushes stopped turning

This repair would require motor replacement, based upon your explanation.

Brushes will not spin while locked in machine..

I have the same problem and think I know the solution.
The plastic pegs on the housing unit for the brushes have been stripped out. The pegs are supposed to be squared tip to click into the square hole of the machine. If the pegs aren't the same shape as the hole, the machine can't grab them to spin the brushes.
The tallest peg on mine somehow got stripped to a rounded shape. I tried wrapping tape, plastic, etc around the peg to make it fit in the hole snug, but it only worked for a few seconds and broke again. I am going to have to replace the brush set. You can order parts from Hoover but I haven't priced them yet.
I hope this helps you. Certainly is cheaper than replacing a motor or machine.

My hoover dual v steamvac make loud noise and sparks

Be careful. This could be a shorted wire inside where the motor is. If there is sparks , something is exposed and touching. The motor also may be ready to give out. Unless your daring enough to open the whole thing up I would bring it to a shop or replace it.

Hoover steam vac, brushes won't rotate, have cleaned filter by brushes, removed brushes and they rotate okay when off steam vac, tried to ajust level for carpet cleaning and brushes still don't move

Check to see if the shaft on the brush block hasn't broken off. Otherwise it is the turbine that drives the brushes and is either clogged up inside or needs to be replaced.

Brushes not rotatine on hoover f7425-900

Hi,

Check to make sure that the foam filter inside the recovery tank lid has at least a 1/4 inch gap from the top. Other then that, the turbine is what turns the brushes, either the shaft on the top of he brush block broke off, or the turbine is stuck. Sometimes you can take th turbine apart and clean out the components, must times it is better to just replace it .

Goodluck..

No spinning.

Most common problem when the brushes stop spinning on this model or any "SpinScub" model is that screen filter is clogged as suggested above. If that isn't your problem then likely the turbine has gone bad. Some genius at Hoover designed a metal gear to drive a Nylon gear (Inside the black part that says "Assembled in Mexico". If the brushes jam hard and sudden, the metal gear just shaves the nylon right off. Solution: You will need a new turbine unit. Cost for the part is about $36, installation takes about 15 minutes (about 6 screws and two tubes).
I refurbish and repair vacuums and steam cleaners for a living and see this all the time.
