Question about Dell Inspiron 1501 Notebook

1 Answer

I have a Dell Inspiron 1501 note book. I was trying to return the computer to the way that it came from the factory. I got it from my sister ang just wanted to clear off everything and have it fresh from a new start. I was trying to do this by using the F8 key and walking through that process but as i would finally start the process and it was going through its steps it would say "Error". then i went to restart it and now it says "BOOTMGR MISSING Press Ctrl Alt Del to Restart" i then do this and it returns to the same screne. I would appreciate any help that would walk my through step by step to repair this computer to the state it left the factory. I have the following cd's- Drivers and Utilities, Operating system. Should i have any more cd's? and which ones? Thanks in advanced also i am not that great with computers but i can follow instructions, so all help is greatly appreciated.

If the laptop hard drive has not been altered try this. An image of the system is created at the factory and stored on a hidden partition. To start the application, press when the blue bar with "www.dell.com" is displayed during the boot process. PC Restore only takes a few minutes to restore the operating system.

When i try to reboot my dell inspiron 1501 to factory settings after i press F8 and click "repair computer" it just starts normally and goes to my desktop.

Hi,

To restore your Dell computer to it's original factory settings, here's how:

To use PC Restore:
  1. Turn on the computer.

During the boot process, a blue bar with www.dell.com appears at the top of the screen.

  1. Immediately upon seeing the blue bar, press .

If you do not press in time, let the computer finish starting, and then restart the computer again.
notice.gif NOTICE: If you do not want to proceed with PC Restore, click Reboot in the following step.

  1. On the next screen that appears, click Restore.

  2. On the next screen, click Confirm.

The restore process takes approximately 6-10 minutes to complete.

  1. When prompted, click Finish to reboot the computer.

note.gif NOTE: Do not manually shut down the computer. Click Finish and let the computer completely reboot.
  1. When prompted, click Yes.

The computer restarts. Because the computer is restored to its original operating state, the screens that appear, such as the End User License Agreement, are the same ones that appeared the first time the computer was turned on.

  1. Click Next.

The System Restore screen appears and the computer restarts.
After the computer restarts, click OK.

Thanks and have a good one.

How do i return to factory setting on a dell pc

If the operating system is windows vista, restart your computer and when you see the dell logo, press f8. you should see advanced boot options. choose 'repair your computer'. then it will ask for the keyboard and language layout. just choose english then click next. then logon. after that it will show the windows recovery screen. just choose to restore to dell factory settings. It will bring all the settings back to factory defaults. But it will delete all your files so make you back them up first. :)

Sounds like perhaps you have a winsock error.
