Question about Hi-Val DVD Kit (DVD6X-00R1) Internal DVD Drive

1 Answer

DVD-ROM crashes Hi, I've recently built my own computer, everything is set up properly, cables in the right places etc that I know off, however I've been having troubles when getting my DVD drive to run DVDs, when I put a dvd in it the computer crashes and a blue screen comes up and performing a memory dump. I know it's not the DVD drive as I've tested on other computers and it seems to work fine, I just have the problem on my custom one. These are my specs: OS: Windows Vista Home basic Motherboard: Asus M2N-SLI DELUXE RAM: 3GB Corsair DDR2 Hard drive: 250GB, SATA DVD Drive: Sony DVD+R 20x (Reads DVD-ROMS) Graphics Card: Gecube Radeon HD 3850 CPU: AMD Athlon(tm) core processor 6400+ I was wondering if it was anything to do with the settings of the RAM in the BIOS? As the blue screen on the computer during the physical memory dump told me to turn off either caching or shadowing, however that isn't an option on my BIOS so i'm unsure how to do it if that's the problem.

MY DVD-RAM is not appearing in MY COMPUTER but seems okay though. I can't access, it doesn't appear but it boots from start up like putting booting cd to it seems okay. I do not know exactly what...

Okay you tried using 'regedit.exe. Now try this;

Left-click on Start, then right-click on My Computer. (Windows logo button, Computer, for Vista and Win7)

Left-click on Properties at the bottom of the fly-out menu.
Left-click on the Hardware tab.
Left-click on Device Manager.

When Device Manager loads, left-click on DVD/CD-ROM drives.
Right-click on Mashita DVD-ROM U870BJ

(Yes I know you have been to Device Manager. Just wanted to make sure all i's are dotted, and t's are crossed)

Left-click on Properties.
Now left-click on the Driver tab.
Left-click on Uninstall.

A Microsoft 'squawk box' will come up.
"Warning you are about to uninstall this device.
It's okay. Left-click on OK.

Close ALL windows, go back to your desktop screen.
Shut the computer down normally. (NOT restart)

Wait 1 minute, turn the computer on.
When Windows has fully loaded you should get a pop-up out of the system tray,
"Found new hardware".

And perhaps another pop-up, "Found Mashita DVD-ROM device"

Post back your findings in a Comment.

Regards,

My Dell Optplex will not recognise my NEC ND-6500A drive, Tag J175G2J

You will have to delete the upper and lower filters and drive will be shoun in my computer again.
In order to delete upper and lower filters you're going to have to edit the registry. The usual cautions apply. If the registry is not edited properly your whole system can crash.

1) Close all open programs
2) Click on Start, Run, and type REGEDIT and press Enter
3) Click on the plus signs (+) next to the following folders

* HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE
* SYSTEM
* CurrentControlSet
* Control
* Class
* {4D36E965-E325-11CE-
BFC1-08002BE10318}

4) This folder is the DVD/CD-ROM Drive Class Description in the registry. Look for any of the following names in the right hand column.

* UpperFilters
* LowerFilters
* UpperFilters.bak
* LowerFilters.bak

5) If any of the above keys shown in step 4 are listed, right-click on them and choose Delete
6) After deleting the keys, close the Registry Editor
7) Reboot your computer
8) Open My Computer and check to see if your CD or DVD drives have returned. You may also want to open Device Manager and verify that the yellow exclamation and error code on the CD or DVD drive is gone

DVD ROM is not detected

>Make sure both the cables (White colored Data cable and Power cable) are fixed properly to both of the drives.
>One of the drives should not have the JUMPER(Small black coloured pin at the rear side of drive), while the other should have.
This should solve your problem.

DVd-rom replaced but not working properly

check the copyright settings on it, most dvd's have that so people don't bootleg it and re-sell it, check to see if there is any scratches on it, check for dirt, or take it to customer support and get a new one
