When the power light blinks, it indicates in PC mode that there's no PC signal (depending on the monitor, it could be the sync signals or a combination of sync and video.)
You SHOULD be able to hit the source button to see if the monitor then comes up to allow you to watch another source like the S-Video, Video or TV (ok, so good luck picking up any signals if you're in the US -- but you SHOULD see static and this is probably the best "quick test" for now).
If you see static... your monitor works for most part.
Where you would troubleshoot now is the cable for your PC and the connector to the monitor on both the PC and and the monitor end. These can come loose, get abused and cause solder breaks on the circuitboards within (less common but possible).
Most cable issues I see are just bad cables from extremely tight spaces bending the cable and causing wiring breaks in the connector housings. (unrepairable because of the molded cable end)
Try those out and let me know.

Make sure you are using the correct batteries, and that they are installed correctly. Some cameras require more powerful kinds of batteries and will not work with the cheaper kinds.
A blinking light can mean something is wrong with the power, not enough or something else.
If you have a power adapter or can get one, you may try that, to see if the camera will work without batteries. If it does, then some problem exists in the battery circuit.
