Question about Microwave Ovens

Trashcompactor - Whirlpool Model TU00SPKB0, Class #R1, Quit working. We turn the knob and nothing happens - no motor noise or anything. Checked the breakers as we have had some issues with our breakers, but they are okay. Thanks!

    Hi Tim,
Left the breaker off for 3 minutes and still no power. My Dad is here and asks if you think the drawer monitor and on/off switch might need to be cleaned?

  • prosbaby Oct 06, 2010

Didn't see my last comment posted - I left out a critical number in the Model. It's TU800SPKB0.

Thanks, Tim. My guys have left the building and will be back shortly to figure out the switch thing. They've pulled it from the cabinet so I'll be anxious for their return. HOwever, I may not get back with you until later this evening. Since you probably don't work 24/7 I won't expect another comment frpm you until tomorrow. They appreciated the diagram you sent!

It is still possibly a power problem or the actual control unit / board of the compactor. Try actually killing the power to the circuit with the breaker for at least 2 minutes, then flip it back on and see if it responds.

Let me know!

Thanks
Tim

It definitely will help to give them a good cleaning. Although I think it may be actually the control unit / board of this compactor. I am having a hard time finding ANY parts for this model... Are you sure it is model # TU00SPKB0?

It may be too old to make it worth repairing if I can't even find a single part for it. Unless somehow that is the wrong model #...

Ah ok that makes more sense, parts are available for that one.. it could be something as simple as a failed switch, #13 on this diagram:

Sounds good, I am always around unless it's something crazy like between 1 AM and 6 AM Central Time... but otherwise I always reply pretty quickly.

    Thanks

My Advantium 120 microwave shows the time, but none of the buttons respond to being pressed.

Try turning it off at the power switch, leave off for several seconds then switch it back on, it may reset the control unit, if not take it to a repair outlet,

The dial on our GE JVM1790WK01 microwave turns freely but does nothing. I checked the knob for damage, none found and the shaft turns freely with a slight bump as it goes around, but does nothing.

turntable problem? it's probably the motor itself. it's easily removed under the bottom panel. you'll need the pricey ge orig. part; as they use a odd 21volt motor. good luck.

Replacing the turntable motor.

The motor assembly is fixed to the base of the oven usually with two screws and access i obtained by removing the inspection plate directly beneath the motor. It is usally a plug in synchronus motor that revolves at a few revs per minute but the plastic cogs in the motors gear box fail and the motor assembly must be replaced. They are fairly inexpensive and obtainable usually from a domestic appliance repair shop.
If you feel confident, disconnect it from the mains power, remove anything in the cavity and turn it upside down if it is a tabletop model, a little more complicated if it is built in!
Remove the inspection plate and disconnect the motor. Remove the motor and go and get a new one. Re fit it and put the microwave back in its position. Plug it back in, with the turntable and plate. Put a cup of water on the plate inside of the oven and heat for 20 seconds to check the plate goes round.
Hope this helps.

Everything works except the cooking part/no heating/turntable not turning, help!

you may have gotten a power surge and that can cause some funny things to happen, 1st is there power to the oven, 2nd if so there may be an internal fuse protector built in to the oven, check with the manual for anything of that sort listed. if not you may have to take it in and have it repaired by a pro. there is a lot of voltage in these ovens and unless you know what you are doing a person could get hurt

Carosel quit working

There is a motor underneath the turntable. Very cheap to buy. Turn it upside down and start figuring how to get at the motor. I have seen microwave ovens where you have to bend out a piece that is a pre-stamped opening to get at the motor. Usually, it is just "take out screws" until you get enough sheet metal out of the way.

We have the same model. It's a piece of garbage. I loved the retro oval window and all and the size was perfect for our space. Then, the paint started chipping off the inside front, the timer started working intermittently, and the oven would just quit in the middle of the cooking cycle! Today, it finally just up and died. I unplugged and replugged it. No go. Finished cooking on stove top. My suggestion? Do like we're going to do and go buy another microwave...not another GE!

Good luck! Peacenikkie@charter.net
