You may have a damaged or broken motor coupling. Whirlpool manufactured top loading washers use a motor coupling between the drive motor and gearcase (transmission) in place of a drive belt. This configuration is known as "direct-drive". The coupling can break through normal wear and tear. Washing frequent loads of heavy items and reduce the life span of the coupler. Common symptoms include the following:

1. No spin or agitation.
2. Washer will fill and empty.
3. Drive motor still runs.
4. Strange rattling, grinding or clicking noise during agitation or spin cycles as the drum sits still.

If your washer is exhibiting these symptoms, then its probably a safe bet that the motor coupling is bad.

The following link explains how to replace one:

The part number for a replacement motor coupling is inlcuded in the link I provided. Replacements can be purchased at any of the following websites:

searspartsdirect.com
appliancepartspros.com
pcappliancerepair.com
repairclinic.com

All these sites are reputable and offer great service with competitive pricing, so shop and compare. The first three sites I have listed also included helpful exploded view parts illustrations to assist you with locating and properly identifying any parts you may need.

If you have any questions, please post back with your complete MODEL NUMBER (located on a nameplate along the wash tub rim under the lid) and let me know. I hope this helps you.

My Kenmore stackable washer makes very load noises in the rinse and spin cycle but still works. Anyone have idea why it's making so much noise

Try spinning the drum by hand when empty, the faster the better. Does it sound noisy or is there a grinding sound? It should sound silent or whir as everything turns. If noisy then it may well be the drum bearings. If it clunks then it may be one of the arms that holds the drum in place has broken.

I have a Frigidaire model FTF2140FS1, front loader washing machine, works great till the final rinse, then there is a noise that is in tune with the revolutions of the tub, sort of a thumping like som

It will most likely be the start of a bearing failure, it will get slightly louder the faster the drum turns, it's not an easy job to replace but it can be done.

Maytag ensignia makes a great deal of noise during rinse cycle

"If you dont have a noisy spin cycle and the noise you hear is only on the rince cycle, dont be worried, as this is totally normal. Water sprays onto the drum while the spin cycle is in progress and rewets the clothes to allow any existing soap to be desolved. This noise is in effect the water hitting the drum during the rince part of the cycle.

Kenmore 80's series top loader only works on wash and rinse cycle

This is a problem with the pump being stuck so the motor cant turn the whole thing. Turn the washer on its side, underneath you can acces the pump, which is connected to the motor by two long clips. remove the pump and take out the colg that caused it to get stuck.

Check the cold water hose. My brand new machine had this behavior until I discovered a kink in the cold water hose - works great now.

Bosch classixx 1000 washing machine - stops on spin

Washing machine stops at the spin cycle - light flashes. Have to drain water out manually. Happened last week and was then able to run an empty rinse cycle. Machine worked normally for another week. Same problem today but have had to drain water manually from the drum after trying an empty 90 wash and rinse cycle (both stopped on the Spin and flashed). Any ideas? Thanks. x

the pully is the drain pump they can go bad or may have somthing in it, pump is not bad to replace part us usually 40 -60$ , you could burn belt up and be forced to replace it also, but if you replace pump would not be a bad idea anyway belts are 20-30 $

Won't Spin the water out...

Hiya WRock04... would be nice to have make and model.. otherwise.. look to replacing the brushes in the motor if the machine has done relatively little work... 3-5 yrs in some cases... otherwise a new motor unfortunately may be required.. specially if you can smell burning!!

Spin cycle trouble

possibly a segment has raised on the motor armature or a faulty motor brush. pop off the belt and put it into a spin cycle to see if you still hear the noise- if so the fault is with the motor as the drum will be still. any scraping sounds in the drum may be a lost bra wire.
