Trying to fix a damaged lens unit

Hello everybody,

A week ago, I accidentally droped my digital camera (Panasonic DMC-FX9), which caused a great harm to the lens. The lens were no more able to successfully retract. I was hearing clicking noises from the gears of the camera when I turn it on and off. After that, I decided to disassemble the camera to examine the lens unit, given that the problem seemed to be mechanical. After examining the lens unit, I found that some of the external protrusions on the len were damaged, not allowing the len to slide in its dedicated path any longer. This made me sure that the camera is not going to continue its generous trip with me (the picture of a broken heart :^{ ) without the replacement of some parts. However, I feel that I can fix it myself if I was able to get those parts, as the agency here in Jordan will most probably ask for the cost of a wholly new lens unit.

Any advice is highly appreciated.

Lens parts can be purchased seperatly, so check witch parts need replacing and get a lens assembly diagram.

Lens Cover Won't Open

NO Super glue this can be fixed pretty easily to get fixed. most local shops will not charge you to much to fix it maybe 15 to 20 at the most i figure. or you can remove the lens cover by putting a very small flat head screw driver on the side of the lens and with the camera off pull away from the camera and it should just pop off. Superglue if you get it on the lens will rune the whole thing. Just tiring to help out . I repair lens shutters all the time they are just mechanical parts nothing really special about them.

PANASONIC LUMIX FX9

Probably not. You may need a new lens. If you need some good used parts for your fx9 you may want to contact a guy in South Carolina who has lots of parts for all the Panasonic Cameras at reasonable prices. I think his email is gerald.ray@aa-ark.com

Only Panasonic will have repair/replacement facilities
If the camera is more then a year old or not a current model
A new replacement may be a better bet than trying for costly repairs.
