Did you check to see if the beater brush was rotating properly? When it doesn't it usually causes the belt to burn and break, though I do not believe you had a belt issue.
If you remove the beater brush like you did to replace the belt, give it a good cleaning and add some WD40 to the two end clips that hold it to the vacuum. Twist the beater brush and the end pieces to be sure it moves freely and reassemble being sure the belt is put on correctly.
If you find this solution helped you, I would appreciate a Thumbs Up from you.
Be well, Paul

Uh, can you give me an idea of what was wrong with my solution?
You did not provide a make or model number, so I was kind of working this blind.
    Some feedback would be appreciated.

For some reason I didn't think you could.

In order to have suction you need air flow.Essentialy,a vacuum cleaner is trying to create a vacuum the whole time it's on.Just because the beater bar turns doesn't have anything to do with the suction. That is created inside the canister. You have an obstruction in the hose anywhere between the motor and the power brush.

My vacuum seems to be just pushing around things instead of sucking them up. I changed the bag and cleaned the bottom, but nothing helped.

Did you check to see if the drive belt for the beater brush was broken or frozen up? The beater brush hits the carpeting and causes the dirt, etc, to jump into the air so the suction of the unit can pull it into the vacuum. The beater brush will be fairly easy to remove. Once it is out of the machine, clean it as best you can, add some WD40 on the plastic end pieces and when you reassemble, put a new drive belt on. This should solve the problem. Paul

Have eureka 9734 replaced belt, put back together, brush rotates well but vacuum is not picking up anything, no suction.

It sounds like the machine is clogged. Check the port behind the belt and any and all hoses for obstructions and remove.

I had the same problem with the belt breaking and the roller not spinning. I read about giving the roller a couple of revolutions to seat the belt, so I put another new belt on. It still didn't spin. I realized it was the end cap that was not spinning so I took off the roller and gently pried off the end cap and there was an enormous amount of thread spun around inside of the small area. I had to keep digging it out with tweezers. Quite unbelievable. I also found that when it spits out instead of sucking up, it needs to be cleaned. Check all areas, especially the part that is round that you have to twist open. (Inside, behind the foam filter and UP).

Be sure when you put the dirtant dust container in place that it is in properly. I have had this and believe it or not this container has enough room to fit without it seating properly. Take the dust container out and reseat it making sure the bottom is secure and then turn the lock lever in place. Try it again. What happens is you get an air gap which allows some air to flow but the vacum does not function properly.
