The E-99 code refers to a "Disc Mechanism Error" for all Kenwood systems. This essentially means that either the magazine is messed up (if you're using a multi-disk system) or the CD loader on a head unit is malfunctioning.

Per Kenwood's factor manual:
Something is wrong with the disc magazine. Or the
unit is malfunctioning for some reason.E99
➪ Check the disc magazine. And then press the reset
button on the unit. If the "E-99" code does not
disappear, consult your nearest service center.

May be caused by: ? An incorrect antenna mast installed for the antenna base equipped with the vehicle ? Poor ground at the antenna base or radio ? Poor battery ground to chassis or engine ? Poor antenna cable connection at Radio ? Corrosion at the antenna coaxial connectors at radio or antenna Service Vehicles are equipped with either a Bosch or a Clarion antenna base mounted on the roof and (for shipping purposes) the appropriate matching mast is located in the luggage compartment. If radio antenna masts are removed from vehicles and stored until vehicles are sold, there is a chance that an incorrect mast can be installed at the time of delivery. Cd player stopped working and error 99 came up on the screen

you might have a bad ground going to the radio or a blown fuse on the back of the radio. check both of those(sometimes the ground going to the car is not enough), or if u still have your manual for the radio, check to see what error 99 means.

Hello nicholsanche,

The only 1999 Ford Escort that I could locate was the ZX2.

What you need is a "wiring harness". The Scosche catalog shows their number Scosche FD16B / FD16 for 1998 and up Ford vehicles. Here is a link to the Scosche product:

Metra also makes wiring harnesses and you can purchase them from www.crutchfield.com. At either Crutchfield or SonicElectronix, you can talk to an audio technician who can look up exactly what harness your vehicle requires. You'll also need some connectors to splice the wiring from your Alpine to the wiring harness. Crutchfield and SonicElectronix sells them also, or you can get them from your local Radio Shack, Lowe's, or even WalMart

You will also need to know the color coding of the vehicle wires. Go here for the '99 Ford Escort.

Hope this helps.
