The tempature gauge was is too high and the refrigerator is warming up and the freezer is at 26 degrees when it is suppose to be -0.

Your refrigerator is most likely missing defrost because of a defective defrost heater=> WR51X10055 Defrost Heater Look inside the freezer compartment and see if a layer of snow/ice is building on the back freezer wall. If yes unplug and defrost freezer compartment with a hair dryer or by filling a large bucket with hot water and placing inside and closing doors for a while. Be aware that excess water may run out on floor if not mopped up with towels while manually defrosting. You may also remove the rear panel in freezer listed as position 213 in this photo=> PSW26PSSAKSS_Freezer_Component's
and looking at photo you should replace parts 230 and 240. Number 240 is the defrost thermostat=> WR50X10068_Defrost_Thermostat Both of these parts have details of how to test before replacing listed on their links. I always think it is good to replace the defrost thermostat while inside working on the freezer. The thermostat can wear out also causing problems later. I will be here should you have further questions, Thanks, Sea Breeze

Which direction does the spring go when installing the thermostat? In to the block or out to the hose?

The spring side noramly goes down to the block side. It is senceing the block tempature not the radiator tempature becase that changes to cool the engine tempature and the spring is what is called bimatlic so its tempature sensitive and looses tenistion the hotter it gets to allow more coolant to flow from the water pump through the radaitor to the engine block to cool the engine

Oven temp not correct

One thing you should know about a gas oven is that they do not keep a constant tempature like an electric oven does. So going by a tempature gauge in the oven can fool you. The way a gas oven works is by "average" tempature. In other words if you take the highest and lowest tempature readings and average them out you will get the actual tempature. For example let's say that you set the oven to 350. Well first it will take about 10 to 15 minutes for the oven to properly pre-heat. Once it is preheated you can listen to the gas burner and watch a tempature gauge(flook meter is best). When the gas burner shuts off the oven tempature will continue to rise. When the oven tempature stops rising then you will take that reading. Then wait for the oven burner to come back on again and watch the tempature gauge. When the tempature gets to it's lowest point and stops then take that reading. Do this several times and then take all the tempature readings and add them together then divide that number by the number of readings you took and that will give you the actual tempature. Within 5 degrees is great but anything over 10 degrees can affect your cooking. This will give you an idea if your oven is out of calibration or not.

There is a calibration procedure. The instuctions are located in the owners manual and can be found here http://products.geappliances.com/MarketingObjectRetrieval/Dispatcher?RequestType=PDF&Name=49-85131.PDF

Just go to the "Thermostat Adjustment" section for the proper calibration procedure.

GE 24 Profile refrigerator: The freezer part

my refrigerator goes into auto defrost every 60hrs for 45 minutes or till the bi metal(defrost thermostat) says it had enough....recently i had ice built up on the coil because my defrost thermostat was stuck open...

ice builds up because the moisture that comes from opening the door or food condenses on the cold coil...tempurature of the coil is below 32 degrees which will ice up the condensed moisture...

defrost is timed to remove this build up

GE refrigerator model GSH25KGRB # HG256690 NO WATER OUT DOOR.

I use a hair dryer to defraust the door. This refrigerator is very sensitive to tempature change. When it gets cold out and you have the tempature on high, the water freezes in the door.

I cover the opening of the freezor with a piece of plastic cut to fit. I tape it in place with blue tape. I tape the door switch down so the you can test the water to see when it is running again. I use the hair dryer With the door open I concentrate the heat on the right side center section. It usually takes about thirty minutes. I put a glass in the water compartment and I try the water every few minutes until it flows. Finally, I run the water for two or three minutes after it starts to flow to make sure all of the frozen water is clear. Thom
