Toshiba tv when switched on no picture n no sound comes

**presuming** this is a horizontal, very thin line right in the center of the tube, and sometimes the picture is ok, then the vertical circuitry has one or more bad solder joints.

A ***QUALIFIED TECH*** needs to resolder the joints in this area. This is not a beginner soldering job. Special care must take place to avoid electrical shock or WORSE!! seriously.

The problem you are having is a vertical deflection problem. The screen is being compressed to a thin white line. It's probably a defective vertical output module or transistor. This part is not too expensive. Less likely would be a vertical deflection coil, which would be more expensive because its usually glued to the picture tube and harder to replace. You'll need to take your set to service center to have it serviced.
Please let me know if I can be of further assistance to you.
Good Luck!

Verticle hold transistor?

The vertical hold keeps a normal picture from rolling either up or down. You don't have a normal picture (raster) here.

Toshiba 36AF43 36" just has white line in the center

vertical output IC has loose solder joints.if you continue to let it operate this way it will etch a burn line across the face of the tube so discontinue use.

Tv not working

this symptom, sometimes called the tube light effect, it is characterised by a bright thin horizontal line across the middle of the screen. this symptom is caused by a breakdown in the vertical deflection circuit. hence maybe the trouble maybe in the vertical oscillator, amplifier or output circuits. but if all i have said is not clear to you, better bring it to a qualified tv technician. good luck!
