Question about GE Spacemaker JVM1640SJ Microwave Oven

1 Answer

Cleaning vents I cannot boil water to create steam. The vents are sticky like syrup was poured through them and totally disgusting. Can they be removed? Unfortunately, the m/w is over a non-replaceable stove top which is so caked on that I might have to get a new stove. I have used a whole bottle of cleaner, and scraped, etc., over a 3-day period without a good result.

Please reply back with your brand and model number so we can help you.

You may need to boil the filters if they're the reusable type, or get new ones.

But once you clarify this, we can help you better.

GE Spacemaker Profile X1800.

I would take out the grills and boil them, but cannot see how to do that.

Also, the GE stove top (Model JGSP44BEY) has so much baked on crud that I may never use it. I poured a whole bottle of easy off onto it and still cannot loosen it all. Same goes for the removable parts from the burners.

I have a Bosch steam iron TDS25, and the handle of the iron is getting red hot and water is coming out of the back of the iron. Help!!

Steam irons become clogged from water deposits. You may clean your iron with white vinegar and water. You should use distilled water. Make a Mixture of 1/2 water and 1/2 vinegar, and pour the mixture into the iron as you would when you fill the iron with water. Turn the iron on 'steam' and let the mixture run through. You may need to do this a few times, depending on how clogged the iron is. After cleaning use distilled water to fill the iron, becuase distilled water leaves minimul deposits behind.

Ge spacemakerxl microwave jvm1650 vent is not drawing air

It is possible, you have removed and checked the filters, still the intake is low even without the protective filters. The system will need to be taken apart to find the opstruction, or as you said a hole in the venting mechanism.

MICRO WAVE DOOR FOGS UP WHEN USING IS THAT NORMAL

A Microwave Oven works by heating water/moisture in food: if the boiling action (e.g. when boiling water) is greater than the oven exhaust fan can cope with, then the inside will steam up and fog the door glass: this is usually OK and 'normal' (this is actual the advise in cleaning up the interior of a microwave oven - steamy soapy water - see your manual).

Hope it helps.

Cleaning the vent

Hello,

One trick is to put a Pyrex bowl of water and let that boil for a few minutes or so. This gives the water vapors a chance to collect and exhaust dirt and dust from the vent passage way.

GE spacemaker Profile XL1800 vent fan will not shut off

It may be a bad door switch, a loose door switch mount, or a problem on the control panel, such as a sticky relay.

I would suspect a sticky relay first, but the door switches should be checked.

If you or a friend decide to look into it, we have critical information on safety, disassembly and door switches at our site, linked here on Fixya: http://tinyurl.com/yzjozk

If you need your control panel assembly (smart board) repaired, we do that for $39.95 nationwide.

Condensation betwejn the front door glass

This would require disassembly of the door panels, which is not recommended unless really required.

You can download the installation guide to help you troubleshoot and correct your venting issues. That should be priority one.

It may be a clogged filter, a bird's nest in the outlet, etc. etc. Failure to vent can cause control panel and keypad trouble if it continues.

The manual / guide is found here: http://www.geappliances.com/service_and_support/literature/

Too Much Steam?

It's possible that the vents got blocked. If it vents to the outside, look for debris in the vent exit at the side or attic of the home. If you're lucky, these will dry put (sometimes it helps to remove the cover) but sometimes the excess moisture gets in and cannot get out. This causes a keypad or control board failure. Please post an update if you still need help.
