Question about LG 50PX1D 50 in. Plasma Television

3 Answers

I have a 50 in plasma tv and a couple of weeks ago there was two pops and the picture went out. the sound still worked. I took the set off of the wall and removed the back and vacuumed all of the dust out and checked the fuses. the three fuses I found are still good. I placed it in a corner till yesterday. I powered it back up and there was another pop after I turned it on again. there is a green light that came on. After about five minutes the cooling fans turned on. I do have a dvm to check voltages etc if needed. Thank you!

The pop would have been a blown cap on one of the sustain boards. Examine the sustain boards to see if you can find any caps that are leaking at the top.

Sustain boards are the small rectangular boards at the top with lots o capacitors on them(cylindrical tubes). Usually marked X-sus. If you still can't find it then get me the part numbers of the boards and I will tell you which ones are the sustain boards.

Definitely check the power supply voltages first, anytime you hear popping it could be a number of things... Since sound works and not the display it is probably not the power supply but please rule that out first and we will go from there.

Thanks
Tim

Hello,
it is require you have a basic knowledge on electronics because you have to remove the back cover of the television to check for bulged capacitors.but if you cant handle call for an expert to fix this . but do take note if you want to fix it yourself

Sound but no picture

this happened to me about a week ago. It was my cable box. If you have a cable box, unplug it from the electrical socket Wait about 30 seconds and plug it back in. give the box time to gather all info and then retry the tv.

We have a pioneer plasma tv and there was a loud popping sound and then the screen went blank

I had the same thing happen a few weeks ago to my zenith 50" plasma tv. I tried to turn it back on with the remote and the power button on the set but the only thing that happened was the led would flash green 3 times and then go back to red. I took it to a repair shop and they called yesterday to tell me it was going to cost $700 to fix it by replacing the power supply. No guarantees either that it will last any longer than the 3 years I've had it for either. But it's still cheaper than replacing it with a new "bigger" tv which is what I will eventually do anyway. I've heard of people looking on ebay for repair parts and doing the repairs themselves but there is no warranty on human error...

RCA 50" - Convergence problem and now "Popping" + no picture

The high pitch popping that you are hearing is arcing in the high voltage circuit. I would not suggest a repair on a set that is this old. Convergence repair plus a high voltage problem could run around $500-$600. But it is your call on the repair, I can only advise.

I hope this helps you.

My 50' LG Plasma made a loud pop and shut off and won't turn on.

warranty not worth the paper it is written on
under warranty it is not a requirement that you fit/ fix anything
the only option is to take it to a repair shop for a diagnosis and quote and then decide if the power hungry plasma set is worth repairing
LED sets use 1/10 the power of plasma units so an upgrade will save money

Loud pop - no picture

Your X and Y circuit boards are bad. It might require the replacement of the power supply as well. This is not uncommon for LG/Zenith plasmas to have this issue. Not a do it yourself repair.

Green light blinking- no picture

This just happened to my Z50 yesterday...10 days after it came back from the repair shop! The first repair was for the "popping" problem where the tv makes a loud pop and the screen goes black. This took 6 weeks to get fixed. For this new problem the repair center is getting hold of LG to find out what to do. I am also calling them because I see this is a major problem that people have been experiencing out of warranty. The first customer service rep told me I was out of luck but I am not accepting that answer. Good luck, we'll both need it.
