If your dryer is STILL heating, but running excessively hot, you may want to check the dryer interior cabinet and/or the entire run of the exhaust ducting from where it exits your dryer to the point where it leaves your home to ensure you have no kinks, clogs, or excessive bends. The following link explains many of the common problems that can cause poor drying efficiency, longer dry times and excessive heat:

Before assuming you have a problem with the appliance, check your installation to ensure you are providing the dryer with proper exhaust and air flow. This is the NUMBER ONE cause of poor drying efficiency. A dryer in a clogged state, or having improper air flow, will not dry efficiently and will cause the heating circuits to actually OVERHEAT. The Hi-Limit Thermostat and/or Thermal Cut-Out will trip once the internal dryer temperature exceeds the preset limit for which it is rated. Eventually, this can lead to component failures and is the source of many fire hazards. If you have any questions, please post back and let me know. I hope you find this information helpful.

Kenmore dryer shuts off after five minutes

The vent box inside the dryer still has lint in it. You need to reach way inside to get at it. Turn power off.

Kenmore dryer 70 series flame ignites, but goes out after 5 mins

If it's gas, the coil valves get weak and are unable to hold themselves open when hot. First, check the exhaust vent. If it's clogged, it can't remove heat and it will shut off prematurely. Most likely the coil valves though.
