Reformatting the card will delete everything on the card HOWEVER I'm not sure about the ones already saved on the camera. Your camera has a USB connection, it may be safer to move the pictures to a pc before you try anything. Good luck,
THe card must now be put back into the camera and reformatted. Just find format in the menu of the camera and it will ask you if you want to erase the contents of the memory card. Answer yes and your card will be erased and reformatted and ready to go.
Yes, formatting the card will erase all the pictures on a card. Formatting initializes the card with an empty file system, which can be useful when a card becomes corrupted.
A card access error may indicate that an xD-Picture Card memory card is in a write-protected condition. xD-Picture Card memory cards have a special protection feature to ensure that your pictures are kept safe.
NOTE:
During this condition, you can still use the printer for printing and saving photos from the xD-Picture Card to a secure location, such as the computer hard drive.
To resolve this error, try the following:
Reinsert the xD-Picture Card memory card into your camera and turn on the camera. In most cases, the camera automatically makes the necessary changes.
Reformat the xD-Picture Card memory card. See the documentation that came with your camera for instructions on reformatting the memory card. Note that this process erases the pictures currently saved to your memory card. To save these pictures, transfer them to the computer before reformatting the memory card. Once you reformat the memory card, transfer those photos back to the memory card using the computer.

Sounds like to me that the card may be corrupt or the data on it is. I would suggest taking the card to walmart or another store with a picture kiosk machine and try to copy the pictures to a CD then once that is done format the card in your camera.
