Question about Maytag PAV2300 Top Load Washer

1 Answer

Not spinning. The belt and drive pulleys work fine, but the inner tub does not spin or move freely. Any ideas on what could be the cause of this?

Spin and then stop and alarm

(1) If the washer won't spin, the clutch assembly might be worn out. The clutch assembly makes the connection between the transmission and the inner tub. It is designed to allow the tub to get up to the proper spin speed gradually. As the clutch wears out it may prevent the tub from spinning. The clutch is not repairable, if it is loud or not working properly it will need to be replaced
(2) If the drive belt is faulty or if it isn't tight on the pulleys the washer won't spin properly and could cause the machine to stop.

Washing machine has smell (burning) and doesnt spin or drain tub.

Sounds like the belt may need to be changed. it eh pulley are spinning but the belt is not, nothing will spin and the friction of the pulley against the belt will cause a burning rubber smell

Banging noise when spinning

see the next steps and use the common sense: God bless you
Level
If it is shaking and not sitting flat ( should have no rock corner to corner) check the leveling legs. Make sure to tighten up the locknut after adjusting.

Timer
Sometimes a Timer will start making noises before they fail. I would highly suggest replacing the timer as soon as the noise develops. This can cause problems with your motor and other components if left alone. This is easy to identify just listen up near the console when running.

Transmission
The transmission does not usually fail but to check this on a direct drive remove the motor and rotate the inner tub and listen for noises it should be quiet. If not the transmission is expensive and you will need to evaluate wether it is worth repairing.

Motor Coupler
On direct drive machines this is a common failure and can be very noisy. To check and replace the motor coupler watch the video.

Motor
You will need to disassemble the washer to listen to the motor running. If the motor is noisy it will need replacing. On direct drive models check the motor coupler first.

Suspension Rods
The Suspension Rods support the tub under the cabinet on some models. The washer must be disassembled to access. These usually do not fail. On direct drive types there will be springs instead of suspension rods. Either usually fails but can from being overloaded.

Drain Pump
The drain pump can be the cause of noise. On belt drive types remove the belt and rotate the pump pulley it should spin freely and make no noise. If it is noisy replace. If it does not spin freely remove and inspect for obstructions if none found replace the pump. Check the impeller on the pump it should be tight and spin freely. On direct drive types remove the pump and inspect or replace.

My washer, A612S, does everything correctly but SPIN in the spin cycles. Both belts underneath are fine. The motor pulley spin fine when in the spin cycle, but the belt doesn't. When I turn it off...

the brake it the drum directly above the transmission pulley it is not intergrated into the trans.
in my almost 30 years of repairs in that old and very reliable machine i would find where a article of clothing and floated over the inner tub and has wedged itsefl between the inner and outer tub, their is enough clerance between the tub and tub cover where you could get finger into it and run it around the tub and feel if a piece of clothing is caught. if that isnt the problem then the tub bearing is ceased up and would require repalcing it and the tub seal

How do you replace the drive belt in a kenmore dryer model 88042

Pull the fron off. Remove tub, should have a spring loaded idler pulley next to the motor. Make sure that it is not broke and spins freely. Also check tub support rolers on each side. They shoule spin freely. If ok, put belt around tub, install tu. Put belt around spring loaded pulley. May need a hand holding tub while you install pulley. Put front on. Make sure the fron of cover fits inside the tub seal. Good luck. email me with issues, bobby.crochet@lyondellbasell,com.

Spin cycle not working like it should

If the washer doesn't reach it's proper spin speed, the clothes may be wet at the end of the cycle. Since you have replaced the belt, it could be that you have a worn motor pulley or tub bearing. Check for damage to the pulley and shaft and for free play. Also make sure that there are no clothes or foreign objects caught between the inner and outer tubs or something causing friction on the drive train. Hope this helped.

Machine not spinning properly

The top of the washer lifts up like a car hood after two clips between the top and the front panel are pushed with a putty knife. Once the top is flipped open, the screws that hold the front panel in place at the top can be removed and the panel lifted off. The belt may be bad or something may be stopping the belt like a bad pump. Or the transmission drive pulley and bearing may be going bad. If the bearings above the transmission drive pulley fail the brake will not release correctly in the spin cycle causing weak, slow or no spin. The belt & pulley system can be accessed by tipping the washer back. The belt is routed around all three pulleys under the washer and is fairly loose until the motor starts. It is the torque of the motor that gives the belt tension. Leaking or loud "jet engine" sound in spin indicates a bad main tub seal at the outer tub which has caused the spin bearing to fail. This is a complicated repair as the inner and outer tubs need to be removed from the washer to access and replace the seal and bearing components. Enter your model number into the PartDetective on the Find & Order Parts page to see all the parts available for the unit.

If you have removed the drive belt from the rear pulley and the inner spin basket does not spin freely, you either have a drum bearing seized up on you, or something binding between the spin basket (stainless steel tub) and the outer tub shell. First, you need to reach inside the wash tub with the washer empty. Place the palm of your hand at the 12 o'clock position and push straight up. There shouldn't be any play in the spin basket. If you can feel the basket wobble up and down, you have either a bearing problem, or a spin basket support (spider arm) broken on the back of the spin basket. If there is no play at all, you probably have something caught. Small articles of clothing can sometimes get pulled between the tubs and usually ends up around the support shaft in the rear. This will obstruct the basket from spinning freely and could eventually cause damage to the drive motor, spin basket and/or tub bearings. You can use the instructions for replacing a rear tub bearing that I have posted under my Tip and Tricks for instructions on how to disassemble and inspect the tub. The bearing may not be bad, but you still need to check to see if anything is binding the spin basket against the tub shell and inspect the spin basket supports. Unfortunately, you have to disassemble the washer to be able to inspect any of these items I mention. I hope this helps you.

Kenmore 94802 washer belt overheats, smokes, and melts

sounds like perhaps the trannsmission has locked up and is not spinning freely, therfore the belt is meeting resistance and not turniing.( try turning the trans. pullley( where the bsck of belt is wound)does it turn freely??? try turning the tub from inside does it spin at all??? before i condemn the tranny i would check for article of clothing fallling between the tubs, holding from spinning, also ive seen (nails/screws/bra underwires,etc..) poke through onr of the holes with in the tub abd stuck to the outer tub also preventing the tub from spinning, look closely to all the inner basket holes!!!
