My onan 4.0 grenerator motor will not idle and it is back fireing while trying to run is in the valves

If it is backfiring even during idle, there are a couple of possible issues. Check the obvious and least expensive first. Make sure you have correct OEM spark plugs, check ignition wires. Then check the ignition coil and trigger module, there is a procedure for doing that in the Cummins Onan manual. A manual can be obtained from http://www.advanced-power-technologies.com/ or local Onan RV dealer. This will give you the ignition coil resistance and the ignition module resistance. Also has anyone messed around with the carb, or has it sat for long periods, too lean a fuel mixture can cause backfiring. Good Luck ;)

Onan 4000 microquiet generator

Check the ignition circuit, and trigger coil for correct resistance on the trigger coil, and the ignition coil. The trigger coil is a small module on the engine shaft near the flywheel.

No spark. the plug is ok 3 HP b&S motor

Most these engine got a wire from under flywheel ignition coil to the the throttle plate where it is ungrounded - meaning, not electrically shorted to the main body of the metal of the engine. When the engine control is moved to off, stop, etc - that plate makes a short/grounded connection to that wire that causes the ignition coil to not function and
it quit making the spark. Now then. The coil is the only other suspect here unless the flywheel has broker it key.

Have 303447 briggs 16 hp only fires one cylinder

Have you also changed the spark plug too. The ignition circuit is pretty simple, from the battery, the Coil is energized, the "points" or equivalent, through the "Distributor" or equivalent, and onto the Spark Plug. So it is a simple matter to work along the path, proving the "Integrity" at each, point by testing. IF it still doesn't fire after ensuring all Leads are OK, the Spark Plugs are proven OK, the Cables, the Points, & Distributor, . IT is either that or the Ignition Timing is OFF. Please check all those points.

The rectifier has no effect on the ignition system if the battery is fully charged. If you have access to a test light or voltmeter, check for power (12 volts) at one of the coil side-connections with the key turned on. If no voltage at either coil connection, then power is not coming from key switch. Check plug connections at key switch--may be loose or corroded from water entry. Do headlights, horn, starter work? Key switch should have one "always hot" connection which comes from battery. Wire colors should match through each connector. Hope that helps.
