Question about Office Equipment & Supplies

When I turn my stylus SX515W on and select the language I want, an error message is displayed : "A printer error has occurred. Turn off the printer, then press On button to turn on. See your documentation." The problem persists after many tries, and the documentation says to contact Epson support in such a case.

Thank you for your prompt reply.
Unfortunately your method isn't working and I still have the error message after 3 tries.

Thanks for the prompt reply! Unfortunately your method doesn't work after at least 3 tries.

  • virgile_sylv Oct 07, 2010

Thanks for your reply, however I forgot to mention that the printer is brand new. Since no cartridges have been inserted in it yet, it's unlikely that waste ink is the problem.
If it really is waste ink, then there is a small door at the back of the SX515W but it's not held by a screw so it is the same model than the one you have in mind?
Lastly, will any of this void my warranty?

  • virgile_sylv Oct 08, 2010

Thanks for your reply. The cartridges are fine, I double checked. The printer won't even let me insert anything. Before the error message appears, a small I've successfully downloaded the driver, though I will probably reinstall everything just to make sure.

  • virgile_sylv Oct 08, 2010

By the way, when I turn it on, it says open the scanner and insert the ink cartridges for less than a second and then the error message appears with a small noise

  • virgile_sylv Oct 15, 2010

    Epson Stylus SX515W

After installing (and re-installing the required software) the printer does not work when turned on, despite protective layers being removed. Once language is selected, a message that asks me to install the ink cartridges is displayed for a very brief period of time before an error message appears :
"A printer error has occured. Turn off the printer, then press On button to turn on. See your documentation."
Resetting the ink counter (pressing On+Setup+Stop) or the printer itself (pressing On for 10 seconds with printer offline) has no effect, even after several tries. Obviously, ink is not the problem here as no ink cartridges have been inserted : the printer won't let me. Finally, the documentation says to consult tech support for this specific error message.

You will need to get the product serviced as it may be a hardware problem as well. Try these steps before you contact support :
1. Turn this product off, and then back on.
2. reset the waste ink counter.
To reset the waste ink counter, press the following three buttons simultaneously, until the unit powers off: Power, Setup, and Stop. Then turn the power back on.
After you reset the counter, you need to redirect the waste ink or you will continue to get this error. On the back of the printer is a little door that is held by a screw. Remove the door and look inside, looking down, for a piece of white absorbent. Under the absorbent is a "clear" tube. This is the waste ink tube. Pull the end out (there will only be a few inches that protrude from the back of the printer). Now, connect some tubing to this, fish aquarium tubing works well, and push the free end into a jar or bottle that has a hole cut in the top or lid.
Once you redirect the waste ink away from the absorbent and sensors, you will no longer receive the error message.
If this doesnt helps please call the manufacturer.

Since you mentioned it is a brand new printer, make sure that the cartridges are the right cartridges for that model. Other cartridges will fit but will not be recognized by the printer software. Make sure they are installed properly. Don't forget to download the driver as well.

Thank you for the reply. Given the additional information, let me get back to check what could be possibly wrong.

If you have downloaded the driver, uninstall first before reinstalling.

A PRINTER ERROR HAS OCCURED. SEE YOUR DOCUMENTATION. I RECEIVE THIS MESSAGE ON THE DISPLAY SCREEN. I HAVE NO PAPER JAMS. WHAT COULD BE THE POSSIBLE PROBLEMS?

Turn off your printer and unplug the power cable. Open the scanner lid. Double check for any obstructions. Move the print head to the left side and check again if there's obstructions on the right side. Close the lid and try to turn on the printer. If error message still displays on the screen, possibly it is a printer issue. It may require service.

For the LJ4000 to change the control panel language:

Turn off the printer.

On the front panel, hold down the SELECT key.

When the Select Language message is displayed release the SELECT key.

Initializing will display on the control panel. After 5-7 seconds Language=English will display.

Press the VALUE key until the desired language is displayed.

Press the SELECT key and an asterisk will appear. The asterisk indicates that the printer has saved the new setting.

Press the GO key to display Ready in the language that was selected.

NOTE: If Select Language does not appear in the display, hold down the SELECT button until you hear the motors rotate, then release. Following printer initialization, the Language= menu will appear in the display.
