Question about Office Equipment & Supplies

1 Answer

I've got a Canon MX 850 that seems to have some paper jammed in it that I can't see or get out. The Canon people told me to take it to a shop, but this might cost more than the printer is worth. Aren't there some techniques to try first? If not, I guess I need a shop recommendation. Thank you.

Hey walesurumi (or some spelling similar),

Thanks for the reply. I have zero confidence taking the printer apart, but seem to remember reading in the huge guide Canon ships with this printer about feeding more paper through the machine to get bits that are stuck.....unstuck. Does that even make sense. Might it work.

I guess probably not since you recommend disassembling the machine.

Do you have a ballpark estimate on what it might cost if I took it to a shop for them to do what you mention and it's simple?

    Thanks for the reply.

I don't feel comfortable taking it apart. I read in the owner's manual about how jams could sometimes be resolved by running paper through the printer (sometimes many times). Have you ever heard of this?

Could you guess a ballpark figure on what a printer shop might charge me to resolve this. I don't expect you to hit it on the nose, I just have no clue what their hourly rate of labor is, etc.

Thanks so much for your help. $30 to $50 ain't bad on a $150 machine.

this involves you dismantling the whole printer. If you are able to successfully disassemble the printer, then you will definitely be able to remove the hidden stuck paper. This is also what the shop that you are taking it to is going to do.

There is a roller in the printer that rolls paper, underneath the roller is where the stuck paper should be.

The problem is not disassembling but to assemble it back. Printer's are very funny most times. If you tamper with the internal part, it might develop another fault.

So, if you have confidence and determination that you are able to do it, then you can loose the printer and remove the jammed paper. If not, take it to the shop as recommended.

Good luck.

Hi, I'm sorry I didn't respond on time to our first comment. Cost of fixing this problem can be between $30 to $50 depending on who is fixing the problem.

I have never heard that jams could sometimes be resolved by running paper through the printer, but you can give it a trial. Or maybe you should just go ahead with the repairs once and for all.

    I wish you Good luck.

Canon mx 850 problem is when the copy button is pushed to make a black and white copy the printer acts as if it is printng color. Prints very slowly. Phil

I do not know the Canon MX 850 but it seems like your printer is set to default to high quality printing. Check the setting in your Canon software for something like this.

Mx 850 gives error code 6A00 . We have purchased

6A00 means the purge unit is not cycling properly. If the printhead can come out of the right corner, you check there for paper scraps. If it's stuck on the right with this error you will need a shop to take apart and see if you need a new purge assembly. The part cost is only around $20.00

Mx 850 canon with reoccurring error of 6010 or 6000

if it's 6A00 then theres a problem with the cleaning unit where the printhead parks. Look for any paper scraps in that area, 6000 is a paper feed error saying something may have fallen in stopping the paper transport roller.
