Question about Office Equipment & Supplies

I've got a problem so simple that I'm almost embarassed to post it. But, what is the best way to add a printer when you have lost the CD with the drivers. I can easily download the drivers from the Canon website, but Windows doesn't have my printer listed in their "add a printer" feature. It is a Canon MX 310. Thanks.

    Thanks. I'm using Vista Ultimate.

    One guy suggested that I need to uninstall all my usb drivers, but the last time I did that it disabled all USB devices. Do I need to do that prior to adding the printer. Thanks.

    Hi nanotech,



    You are excellentent, but let me tell you what I did. I simply turned my printer on, and it began loading the proper drivers for it.



    Then, after four hours of working fine, it started, once again, printing only the page number and the date and a little more at the bottom of the page.



    But, it works fine if I copy and paste something from the web into a Word document. It simply again will not direcly print from the web.



    This problem always goes away, only to come back again. It is very strange.



    Oh, I'm using a 32 bit system.

    Hi,



    I have the correct driver installed, and the printer will work fine for hours. Then, it will just start printing a line from the very top and one from the bottom. This consists of the Page number at the top and at the bottom it will print file://C:\Users\(my windows username here)\AppData\Local\Temp\Low\UUH3K......htm.

    Like I said, it will print from the web fine for hours, and then start doing this. I'd be happy to upload anything to you, I'm just not sure what you want, or how it might help you.

    I forgot to tell you that I am using Internet Explorer 8 and have made no changes at all to the page settings or print settings prior to the printer doing what it does.

    Hi nonotech,
    Sorry I've been on a trip and then I got sick, but I'm troubleshooting this problem again.

    I use CCleaner about 5 times a day, or more.

    I don't feel confident reseating the memory sticks. I'm on a desktop w/a full service warranty and don't even know how to get to the memory.
    When resetting the userprofile, after putting %USERPROFILE% in the run box, and pressing enter, do I need to create some new folder (as you said, with temp in the directory)? Can you explain a little more? Thanks so much for your outstanding help!!

    Thanks nonotech for the great reply! I've worked for over 15 years in customer service and have always done what you seem to do...go far beyond the extra mile.

    Fixya does need to add a remote connection feature. Comodo has it, and their tech support is only $49 a year. It's surprisingly good, too. It is just tough for you to diagnose computer problems without seeing all of what is going on. And, the technology is readily available, so I wonder why they don't use it.

    Regarding my XP key question, yes those answers were disheartening and unhelpful. I bought the CD, they acted like I had a bootleg.
    I just don't know how to run two OS's and then a program that would give me the key.

    Please send me any thoughts you have. I will give you a commendation to management for all the time you've taken with me.

    My computer skill/knowledge is slightly above average, but could you go over the steps in creating the new temp folder. It's just not quite clear to me.

    And if you have any tips on the XP question, that would be great.

    Hey nonotech,

    I think you've hit on the problem. I used the Iron browser (a safer form of Chrome) and had no problem.

    But, I need to use IE to use a security program that is not compatible with Iron. I used Firefox for 8 years, but am having numerous problems with it.

    Isn't there a way to run a repair tool for Internet Explorer?

    Well, give me few minutes, let me upload the driver on another website so that you'll not have another problem downloading the driver.





    In the meantime, if you can, please let me know the bit version of the vista, whether 32 bit or 64 bit. You can see it in the System Properties. Right-click "My computer" Properties and check out..

    Hi.. I am sorry for the delay... but now I am confused, have you fixed the driver and installation problem. Referring to your last post, it seems you are now having problem with web page printing. No worries, was it working fine and did you make any changes with the "Page setup" or etc..etc.. The print settings is actually interrelated to the Page setup in web browsers.



    Please clarify and let me know the name of the browser you are using, i.e. internet explorer, firefox or googlechrome.... If you know how to upload the printed-scanned copy here, that'd help a lot easier in troubleshooting.



    Sorry that I am still not giving you the solution, but I don't wanna assume a problem, instead I prefer to give the exact solution.

    Your problem is another ummmm.. little different. In most cases, we only get the blank pages, but since you can print normally (in the beginning) and get blanks... I have some doubts with your system's TEMP folder.





    I hope you do clear your system's "temp" folder often. As you have mentioned ".... almost embarassed..." I agree, if it's only with the settings, but since there's no any changes made with your settings... I am afraid there's temporary folder problem.



    The default Internet Explorer 8's Page Setting is something like this..:







    Some Web pages/website will not print unless you check the "Print Background Colors and images" but almost all web pages don't have this restriction and I don't think this is the issue with yours either.





    Well, let's try to clear/clean the temp folder.





    Download this tool (click here) install it and run the program. Once you open up the program, you'll see few buttons on the left-pane, like...Cleaner, Registry, Tools...etc.. by default, Cleaner page will be opened for you, on the middle pane (it could also be in the left pane), click "Run cleaner" button and then follow the onscreen instruction, Notice that the internet explorer 8 is closed and other internet browsers as well. You'll see the status of the cleaning on the progress bar. After it's completed, again click "Registry" and then "Scan for issues", after the scanning is done, click "Fix all selected issues" > "No" > "Fix all selected issues", "close". Now close the Ccleaner and restart your computer. Try printing several pages and verify if the problem persists and let me know the outcome.





    Another possibility, this is not a common issue, but it could be happened, let's try to make sure this is not the case, I am not sure about your computer, but I hope you do know how to Reseat the Memory Sticks (Ram), you'll need to open the case (Desktop) or you'll need to open the Memory Compartment (Laptop). Shut down the computer, open the case/memory compartment and remove the Ram sticks, then clean the Gold contacts with an eraser (Pencil Eraser), after you are done with the cleaning, reseat the Ram/s and re-install..... Now reboot the system and try again with the printing.





    If both the above methods don't seem helpful, you can try creating a new TEMP folder, to do this, type in %USERPROFILE% in the Run Box (Start Search Here box), press enter and create a new folder with the name "Temp" in the directory. Restart your computer and work with the printing.





    If the problem persists, let me know. I would be glad if you can upload a scanned/photo of the printed document (the blank printed document only with date, url, page no...etc...).

    Oh.. sorry to hear about your health, I hope you are fine now... and the funny thing is I almost forgot you.. :-)), If I am right, it's passed 10 days...





    Sorry, I think I made you confused, after opening the %USERPROFILE%, right click anywhere in the directory and create a new folder and name it "temp".





    Well, I'll update your with more info in the evening [here, it's morning and I badly need some sleep] (I never easily give up with a problem :-PPP), in the mean time, try with that "temp" folder.





    Since this issue is only with the webpage printing, I don't suspect the drum's "Wasted Ink" overflown or something similar related to printer and you know, the strangest of all is "Only After Some time" not always...."







    Please try with another browser, if in case there's some bug/s with your Internet Explorer, you can download Firefox or Googlechrome for the time being (to test the issue)..

    Oh..!! I just visited your profile and found out this.. click here.... what exactly happened? or Did anyone help you out? The solutions provided where.. hmmm.. i can say meaningless.. and those experts seem "Know All" guys.. They shouldn't answer a problem that way, if they don't have idea, then they mustn't post any comments.. well.. the first solution by eye.. I can forgive him/her somehow, but what do you think about the second solution? It seems you were requesting us to give a valid windows xp product key..but there's nothing mentioned that you want the new key......and so on..



    It seems you haven't received any quality answers from FixYa.. this is a shame, coz most experts consider themselves as Know All.. and doesn't realize how to make the customer or the asker understand the solution. There might be fixable or non-fixable problems, but at least he/she should give a solution and advice with the cause of the problem.. I hope you think the same..





    You'll not believe me when I say this.. Few days back, I was stuck with an old man on a chat session, but unfortunately his problem couldn't be fixed easily, after every possible troubleshooting measures have been taken, still there's no joy.. and what do you think, our chat session was already hours (continuously) lol... but I like his attitude.. he's never rude to me and I tried my best to keep him interested... At last I told him to format his System, but he has nothing like windows xp cd and this and that.. Awwwwkk... I helped him download a windows xp Cd and also worked with all his files and drivers... The next day was the formatting day :-).. It was like something...:-PP another 6 hours continuous chat.. and at last I violated FixYa's terms and conditions and did a remote connection and everything was fixed after the new xp's installed. All together I spent at least 15 hours.. I felt quilty about the violation so right-away, I wrote a mail to the FixYa community manager apologizing myself and with some advice to add more better features on the Chat Session..:-).. I knew that they were watching us since it was not a normal duration, but 8 hours.. and she (FixYa CM) sent me a mail about the condition and with a consolation letter.. hahahaha i don't know how to say that..



    Uff... it's already 7:44 am.. and this much lines :?@.. I just wanted to let you know how things goes here and I appreciate that you never show frustration with FixYa... I'll definitely help you fix your problem, even if it takes time.. I don't care.. but we should at least find out the cause..

    Good to hear that it's the IE...:-). Let's try to uninstall the IE8 from your system, though it's not actual Uninstall, this will at least clear something, possibly which is causing the issue (I haven't exactly find out the cause, still working, definitely I'll update you.). Before you begin, backup the Bookmarks (Favorites) so that you'll not bring up another problem :-). After you are done, open the "Control Panel"'s "Add/Remove Programs" and check the installed programs, if you are fortunate, you'll find the IE8 in the installed lists, if not, you have to remove it from the "Add/Remove Windows Components". Once the "Add/Remove Windows Components" is opened, locate the "Internet Explorer" and de-select the check mark from the select box, click "next" and proceed with the wizard. after this, open "My Computer" > "C:" > "Program Files" and locate "Internet Explorer", then delete the "Internet Explorer" folder.


    Restart your computer and download the latest IE8 (I'll send you the link later, I can't insert links/urls here), and install it.


    You can check the result.

first of all , if u would ve contacted kodak,they would ve diagnosed the problem and if problem was with the printhead,u would ve got it free of cost from kodak. and kodak recommends its customers to use its printers atleast once a week. and kodak is the best . im using esp-7 for past 1 year and didnot had any issues with printer till now.

you need to go to the manufacturers web site and download the printer drivers from them...eg if you´ve got a canon printer go to canon.com in the menus look for support and submenu drivers and downloads.....you´ll need your printer model handy......drivers eg printer software are free .....some sites charge for user manuals

go to the Epson site, choose your country, click on support, then on all in ones, then on the download drivers. Simple. I do it all the time, I've had 12 different Epsons, all are listed.
