Make sure you're not in the macro mode. There's a slide switch on the end of the camera, near the USB socket. Make sure the switch is in the mountain position, not the flower.
Also bear in mind that the flash is for still photos only, not for videos.

Flash pops but doesnt fire

Still this is strange. Most of the time when I use the auto setting, I turn the main dial not on the green camera, but on the one between SCENE and the green logo. That prevent the flash to pop up. But still if you want to use the flash it should be possible.
Be aware that some settings the flash can't be used, f.i. when the shutter speed is to high. I would suggest to put al user settings back to standard and try to use the flash again. If it stalls again, try to read the display, if it gives anything of a warning or message.

E 91 01 THE FLASH DOESNT WORK AND IT GIVES THIS ERROR CODE

Just go in "menu", "set up 1", "initialize", and select "ok". With that you will reestart your camera. I already did it twice in my DSC-H2 and the flash came back to work. Goo Luck!!

My camera doesnt take pics @ night Maybe flash

First make sure that the camera has fresh batteries. Then see that the flash setting is either 'on' or 'auto' or any graphic mode like a lightning bolt.
If this doesn't help, the flash might be damaged. Any camera shop can check this quickly.

Doesnt seem to be on

Most likely:
weak batteries
on/off switch has internal corrosion
Battery contacts corroded
If fresh batteries do not cure the problem, it needs repair.
Consider the cost of repair vs. replace with another Maxxum 5000/7000 on Ebay. They go pretty cheap these days. They're practically giving away the flashes for those early maxxums, even the 4000 flash.

The flash pops up but doesnt work. than gives me a busy signal than gives me the 99 warning. it was dropped a short distance from my hands. just want to know what i can do myself. if anything

This error is usually assocociated with a dirty lens mount.. rub both lens mount terminals and camera terminals with a pencil eraser making sure nothing gets inside the works. and reassemble.

Other reports indicate it can also be the battery terminals.. do the same thing.

regarding the flash.. if the lens mounts are dirty ( or misaligned requiring repair) the flash will not flash.

When fitting a Canon 430EX flash to 450D,,light emits but flash doesnt fire, no flash in any mode.

Your camera may have been set to not fire external flash. Go to your menu, 5th tab. Near the bottom, there's an option for Flash Control. Select that. It should now show "Enable" or "Disable". Enable it.

Also "External Flash func. Setting" gives you more options for your 430EX.

Flash pops up but does not flash

Turning the Flash Off and On: 1. With the camera in any user set, repeatedly press the Flash/ISO button on the lens barrel until the flash cancel icon (a lightning bolt in a circle with a slash through it) is displayed on the control panel and screen. 2. When finished, to return to the default setting, press the Flash/ISO button until AUTO and the lightning bolt icon are displayed on the control panel and no flash icon is displayed on the screen. If it still doesnt help: 1. Check that batteries are fresh. 2. Check that camera hasn't been set for no-flash mode. 3. Give the flash time to charge before pressing shutter.
