Air requirments for these units are 50 cubic feet of air for every one thousand BTU'S - if you are under this amount need to have fresh air into the room with a grill that has 1 square inch for every thousand BT'S.

Black soot is on the walls & ceiling around the baseboard heaters in the rental house that I live in. What is causing this & how do I clean this off?

If these are electric base board heaters, that is probably not soot, but instead mold. Put a little bleach in a spray bottle and try spraying it right on to the black soot looking stuff and see if it will disappear. If it does, it is mold. Bleach will kill the mold.

If these are gas heaters you need to call a service man NOW. Black soot is a sign of gas burning raw and can be very dangerous. Turn them off if this is the case.

You need to clean it out. Take the wall heater down and use a air compressor to clean out the gas system. Also clean the orifice out. Make sure that the chamber is clean and clear of spider webs and dust.

What causes black soot to smoke up our complete house with ventless logs

Hi,
Take the pilot and burnner assembly all apart and blow it out with compressed air then reassemble and make sure that the air shutter is totally open. The soot is cause by a bad air/fuel misture that is too rich and cause carbon to form from incomplete combustion. If the burner continues to make soot then reduce the gas pressure to the gas log at the pressure regulator.
