Hi! Please remove the battery and press hold the power button for 10secs. while the battery is removed. This should reset the system and resolve the problem.

I had taken the PNY SD 4 GB 15mb/s card out of the computer and put it in the Cannon Powershot SD1200 IS to atke a few more photos....The camera displayed a little orange camera in the bottom left hand...

When you removed the card from the computer, did you use the "safely remove hardware" function? If not, that could be your problem. You could try to use a separate card reader, or you could take the card to a store like Walmart and plug it into one of their picture kiosk machines. If your pics show up, you can print them or even make a cd of them. Then, when you have them safe and sound, format the card in the camera to erase and initialize it so it will work properly.

How do I erase "protected"

Unprotect them first. While viewing the picture, press [MENU] and select "Protect". Full details are in the "Protecting images" section of the manual (page 100 in my copy). If you need a manual, you can download one at

I keep getting a Communition Error when I turn on my camera... i'm trying to download the pictures to my computer ... what's wrong?

Try NOT connecting your camera to your computer.

The best way to download pictures from your camera to your computer involves removing the memory card from the camera and plugging it into a card reader (either built-in to the computer or connected via USB or FireWire). This is likely to be faster than connecting the camera to the computer, and won't run down your camera's batteries.

Once the card is plugged in, it will appear to your computer as a removable drive. You can use the operating system's drag&drop facility to copy pictures from the card to the computer's hard drive, the same way you copy any other files. Or you can use any photo cataloging program.

I just got my camera today and i put in the memory card and i could only take like 4 pics before it say "memory card error".. and i did try delete all the pictures off this memory card but it just saysnot...

Have you ever "formatted" (not erased) the card in the camera (noting that this will also erase any pictures that you have on the card)? There are several possible causes for memory card errors. Troubleshooting tips for this problem may be found at this link.

SD1200 IS Memory Card Error

Take no more pics until you've recovered the photos, take the card out of the camera. Here's some freeware photo recovery software that should be what you're looking for.

You will need to use a flash card reader with this software. If you don't have one, get one, they're inexpensive.

Finally, I'd suspect the card before the camera. Think about purchasing a better quality card, they're relatively inexpensive these days. Also, first thing you should do with the new card is format it in your camera. You'll only need to do this once. If a card is not formatted when first purchased, it will work fine at first, but will eventually corrupt.

Canon powershot SD1200 IS says Memory Card Error

You probably just need to format the card in the camera. This will completely erase it so download any pictures you want to save first.

How to retrieve pictures

Possibly depending on the type of format that you did. Take no more pics until you've recovered the photos (or else you may start overwriting some of them), take the card out of the camera. Here's some freeware photo recovery software that should be what you're looking for:

You will need to use a flash card reader with this software. If you don't have one, get one, they're cheap:

Disk says not enough space on disk to finilize?

Each time you execute finalization, the disc remaining space will decrease by approximately 13 MB. If you don’t have enough room, it won’t allow you to finalize the disc.
To finalize this disc, you have to delete some pictures to make enough space. But don’t worry, before you delete those pictures, you can save them to your computer.
Find out the CDs came with your camera, refer your manual page 51 - 61 to install ‘PIXELA PTP Manager’ , connect your camera and computer with USB cable, and copy some pictures to your computer, then delete the pictures on camera side. If still not enough room, copy more and delete more. make it enough to do the finalization.
