It has to be in your top threading, maybe the thread is tangled, slipped out of a guide, or your needle. If, you cannot find it call Singer at 1-800-4singer and talk to Customer service. Good luck, I hope it is something simple and not costly.

Bottom thread is all tangled when I sew. Top looks fine, then flip it over and it's a mess.

is it the top thread that is too loose and making the messy stitch or the bobbin thread. if it is the top thread coming down and making large loops that tangle increase your top tension slowly try a few stitches, repeat till you get back to normal.
If it is the bobbin thread that is tangling, first make sure you are using the same thread top and bottom, some will just not work together, then rethread the bobbin, if it is still too loose there is a little screw on the side of the bobbin casing, the larger of the two, turn it no more than a 1/10 turn to the right if too loose and to the left if too tight. I would make the starting point with a piece of tape or nail polish so you can get back to where you were if this is not the problem. My book says you very rarely ever have to touch the bobbin tension. good luck

You may have a burr from an errant needle strike on your bobbin case or even on the bobbin itself. Check to see if there are any rough spots on or around the bobbin.
If you don't find anything, you may want to remove the bobbin assembly and clean the lint out from the lower assembly. Sometimes the smallest amount of lint or pieces of thread can cause problems with the bobbin.
You didn't mention if the tangled thread happens on the top or the bottom of the fabric. If it is on top, then it is a bobbin issue. If it is on the bottom, then it is an upper tension/thread issue.
Try removing the bobbin, thread, and needle. Rethread the entire machine using a different bobbin and a new needle. This may solve your problem. Good luck!

Handwheel is locked down

Several things to check. Did the needle break and jam in the bottom? Is the needle bent or did it jam in the bobbin area? I had a 'knot' of thread build up on the bottom and it hooked itself into the metal clip on the bobbin so that the needle couldn't raise. If thread jams in the bottom cut the threads until you can free the hoop and material. Check the bobbin for pieces of thread and fuzz. Check to see if the bobbin case or the throat plate is scratched or bent. If you are stitching Free Standing Lace on this machine or a piece with over 20,000 stitches I recommend starting with a new full bobbin and a new needle. As you get toward the bottom of the bobbin, thread seems to have a high likelihood of tangling or looping and will cause a jam which means the handwheel locks.

There has to be a problem in your threading or your needle. You may have the needle inserted backwards, flat side has to face rear or the needle is bent. Totally unthread your machine and make sure that there are no tangles and that it feeding the right way. Watch how they show your for threading and winding the bobbin, plus threading the bobbin. Good luck, but I truly think it is in your threading.

Bobbin tangles on Brother xr 65

This was happening to me too, I reversed the bobbin feeds and it has not tangled since then. I was orignally feeding the bobbin from the left side and now i feed the thread from the right. It works great this way.

Upper thread getting tangled in the bobbin

Always remember T-N-T. Thread, Needle, Tension. Assuming its threaded properly, is the needle all the way in and facing the right direction? These symptoms also suggest the bobbin may be in the bobbincase upside down thus turning in the wrong direction. Hope this helps.
