Question about Whirlpool Dryers

My dryer will not heat up. I took the machine back off and could not see a flame when the machine is turned on. How do I get to the burner? Do I need to take the drum out? Any diagrams would be helpful. Thank you in advance!

If you componets to the gas assembly are ok look for air flow problems and correct them. Find the limit and replace it with a fresh one. Any component you cannot get continuity on is the problem.

Try this link for Troubleshooting a gas dryer
You did not list a model # and whirlpool makes several different styles of dryers. If you check this link http://appliancehelponline.com/gasdryer.html you will also find disassembly videos of the rest of the whirlpool styles, the troubleshooting will be the same on all types.

This was very helpful except for the fact that my dryer does not have a split front panel. The model # is lgr7646eq3. Is there anything else you can tell me about how to get to the burner assembly?

No Heat. Burner shuts down after a minute or so.

You will find a limiter usually on top of the burner with two wires going to it thast needs to be replaced. to check it jump the wires and start the dryer be sure to tape the wires to b prevent a short, Thats almost always i. also check the two coils on the burner ussualy the first burner.

Kitchen aid dryer / heat flame not staying on after 20 secs

Sounds like your gas valve is fine, if it comes on at all, its good. A air flow restriction would cause a overheat condition and shut down the burner. Once it cools back down the burner would re-ignite and repeat the cycle. The sensor on the left of the burner is the flame sensor and the flame wouldn't come on at all if it was bad. You've already changed the coil kit so the valve is fine, disconnect the vent from the back of the dryer and see if the problem goes away. If the problem stays, I would suspect the thermostat. Good luck.

Gas Dryer Model # WGD5821SW0 The dryer does not get hot. We have shut of the breaker and turned it back on after 3 minutes as suggested. Help I have 6 loads of laundry waiting for my attention.

The heat is supplied from the gas burner. 1- If the ignitor is not on because the filament is broken then the burner is not working. 2- If the ignitor is working but the thermal sensor is broken then the gas valve is not open to sustain the flame in the burner so there will be no heat. Need to check these by accessing the back panel. Good luck

Maytag gas dryer not heating

You may want to disconnect the vent from the back of the dryer and try it. Flame rollback will cycle the burner off by the high limit.

Considering what you have already done to it, if the problem still exists you probably have bad coils on the gas valve. make sure you replace them as a set.

The thermal fuse is a one time device. If it opens, the burner will not come on at all.

Flame does not seem hot enough - too much yellow flame.

In a gas dryer, heat is provided by a gas heater that is controlled by an air shutter. The gas heater is generally the source of no-heat or drying problems. You can often correct such problems by adjusting the air shutter on the gas burner, which is located along the bottom of the dryer.

To adjust the shutter, take out the screws and remove the panel that covers the gas flame. Turn on the dryer so the flame is burning. If the flame has a deep blue color and you hear air whistling around the burner, the air/gas mixture is receiving too much air. If the flame has a yellow tip, the mixture is not receiving enough air. Turn the thumbscrew or loosen the two screws slightly to increase or decrease the flow of air to the burner. Keep turning until the flame is a light blue color, without any yellow, and the whistling stops.

Our Kenmore HE3 front loading dryer gives off a fuel smell inside

When I had the back off of the dryer I did notice one thing that looked a little unusual. The vent
pipe, which the flame of the burner travels through, ( running from the burner to the back of the
dryer ) was painted, inside and out. Some of the paint was cracked and slightly bubbled, as though
it was melting from heat, and there actually was a small pile of soot laying there. I wiped off as much
of the paint as I could with a rag, and vacuumed it out, and put the dryer back together and ran it.
After running the dryer for a while we no longer have the smell. I don't really know if that was the problem
or not, but at least the smell is gone.

Gas dryers use an electric ignition device rather than a pilot light to light the gas heater: An element becomes hot and glows like the filament in a lightbulb. Electric ignition systems are always sealed; you can't adjust or repair them. If an electric ignition device fails, call a professional service person for replacement.

Electric dryers have self-contained electric heating elements.
