I do not have sound at all on my computer, I have check all speaker plug ins and also plugging in head phones. Still no sound.

There could be 3 reasons for it. 1 The sound driver is not loaded/activated. You may have to load it again. 2 The volume switch is on MUTE. Check on this by clicking the speaker icon on the task bar. 3 The volume switch is placed on the bottom low position.
For my information were you getting sound earlier????????

Sound (volume) of media player is at maximum but still very soft.

Go to your volume control via Control Panel or double click on speaker icon on task bar and check sound settings and computer volume or check your speaker's volume. Otherwise your speaker at fault.

Have deshtop pavillion a6703w. My sound was there and all of a sudden gone. Just happened last week. I have tried everything the help articles have said to do and nothing works.

Hello,

It would help me with troubleshooting if you could describe some of the steps you have taking to try and resolve this issue. I recommend this for anyone that is trying to have a problem solved.

I would recommend a couple of things to try, and my apologies if you have already tried them.

-Make sure your computer has the newest drivers for your motherboard, sound cards and graphics cards and BIOS.
-If you are using speakers you bought separately from the computer, you may need to install updates software for that as well.
I can help you get started with this step by giving you a link(below) to HP's website where you can download updated drivers.

-Make sure Windows is up to date by Clicking the Start button, click All Programs, and then click Windows Update.
-When your computer is booted up, if you look at the bottom right of your desktop, you should have a toolbar(if using Windows). In this tool bar you should have a speaker icon which is for your sound controls. If you right click on this speaker icon, you will get some options and if you click the option "playback devices", It will bring up a window that you can use to manage the sound properties. I would also make sure the sound is not muted which you can do from that same speaker icon.

Your HP computer may still be under warranty. If so, I would also recommend calling HP if you are unable to resolve the issue on your own.

Regards,
G33k

Hello there... Check your PC's volume. You may or someone in your household has accidentally muted it. Unmute it or increase its volume (if you can't find the audio icon in the taskbar, proceed to the control panel - it's there), it maybe too low. Hope this helps... Ai :)

No sounds

Was the sound working beforehand?
First off try to find a continual source for sound like a music file or movie etc...something that can play while you tweak settings.
As the sound is playing(Make sure the program that is playing the sound file has the volume up, check your Advanced Volume settings by double-clicking your sound icon in the bottom right corner of your screen by your clock. Make sure the sound is set and none of the channels are muted. Next check the volume knob on your speaker and make sure that is turned up. Lastly make sure the speakers are securely connected to the PC in back (follow the cord). The cords are usually color coded, make sure it's plugged into the correct hole.
Good luck!

Sound

Click Start, Settings, Control Panel, then double click the "Sounds and Audio Devices" icon. Make sure the Mute box isn't checked and the Volume bar is at least 1/2 way on the Volume tab. Also click the Speaker Volume tab and adjust the sound there as well if needed. You might also want to check the "Place volume icon in the taskbar" icon so you can easily adjust the sound settings next time.
