My washing machine is "eating" my clothes!

Nearly everytime I wash a load of clothes, I find that at least one, somtimes more, items have tears/holes in them. It has ruined a couple of swimsuits, camisoles, my son's baseball uniform(s), underwear, and so much more... What's going on????

Well, I checked for sharp/ broken areas and everything appeared normal.

    Any other suggestions?

My brandnew frontloader leaves holes in my clothes that look like a mouse has chewed on them while they were in the washer.

I have the same issue - GE WBVH6240 washer routinely tears or shreds clothes.

"Snags, holes, tears, rips or excessive wear" is listed in the troublshooting guide, and is apparently caused by "snaps, hooks, buttons, zippers." The solution listed is to fasten all snaps and buttons, and zip all pants before washing.

Does anyone else do this? Button & zip all the clothes before washing?

you may ck for a small gap between bottom of fins and stainless surface a gap could allow clothing to get caught and the threads pulled also ck along door seal and door liner may be something in that area as well good luck

GE WBVH6240 - The clothes, especially light items like nylon or wicking material, catch in the gasket track around the door. Once this happens, the spinning action heats the clothes, melts some and tears others. I've replaced the door gasket (seal), looked for sharp edges on the seal and drum, and it still happens. You will find multiple blogs that report this problem. It appears to be a systemic problem that can't be fixed. I'm returning to a top loader. The cost of the water is less than the cost of a golf shirt with each load.

Why is my whirlpool deut washer tearing clothes

Check the little holes around the drum, I have seen pins and needles get stuck in these and cause lots of damage. I would replace the seal.

My towels are coming out of the wash frayed and coarse. My lighter cottons are all stretched out. What is causes this to happen and how do I repair it.

Hi

If your washer has developed a bad habit of snagging and/or tearing your clothes; before scrapping your washer, try these few tips:

1) Check, by hand, the smoothness of your washer. Look for any broken fins or roughness on the basket surface. Replace, if necessary.

2) Reduce the size of your loads. Heavy, cramped loads can cause a lot of friction which leads to tears.

3) Reduce the amount of bleach used. Bleach can eat holes in clothing.

4) Verify water level is not too low, especially during rinse cycle, where snags are more apt to occur.

5) Consider placing delicates in a garment wash bag

6) Front load washers have no center agitator, so they are less likely to tear clothes.

Please get back to us if you have further query or else please accept the solution.

Perhaps you need to remove the agitator and look under it for objects that do not belong.
In the past I have found items of clothing and such.

What causes the tears in the bellow seals on front loaded washers

It’s caused by gradual wear and tear through the vibration of the machine and rotation of the drum. If they are breaking down too often then it may be that your washing detergent mix or use of bleach or how you clean the bellows is weakening the rubber. Also excessive and heavy loads put more stress on the drum and can cause the drum to lurch dramatically from side to side which will end up in causing the bellows to wear / tear.

Holes in clothes

Inspect the rubber seal, and steel drum to make sure there is no foreign object sticking out, which could be tearing holes in your clothes. Also check to see if any of the holes in the steel drum are dented in. or out or misshaped, as this could cause the tumbling action of the drum to tear clothes.

After a washing cycle on wool wash, some items are not completely wet - machine is not overfilled. there is also fluff on some of the items

Look in the area where you place the clothes. in the back area about the 2o'clock posistion there is a small hole. usually this hole which recirculates the water becomes clogged with lint. If there is n othing there, you could have a pump failure, and it is not letting the water get back onto the clothes.

Washer is turning my white clothes gray

Oil from transmission is a good possibility. The machine is still young but sounds like you do a lot with the washer. Better have a friend that don't mind looking it over, make sure that's oil and go from there!

Elastic eating front load washer

Check the inside drum vanes. Sometimes the vanes may crack and grab certain items.Next check the front of the drum and tub for any loose items like wires from bras or curtains sometimes these may get stuck in the drum or vane and cause this problem. Also check your soap make sure there is not alot of suds this is my number one problem with these machines.H.E. soap is best but watch liquid tide it's been sudsing alot.
