Question about Computers & Internet

1 Answer

Hi! I have 2 removable media disk drives on my Hewlett Packard PC (configurable): (1) the original drive, a Samsung CD-R drive, and (2) a Lite-On CD-RW drive. The Lite-on drive was installed 5 years ago, when I also upgrade my OS to Windows XP Professional. Everything has worked fine for years. Now, suddenly (in the past week) I notice at least 2 problems: 1. When I booted up the system after a recent area power outage, the CD-R drive disk tray opened and stays open; pressing the load/unload button does nothing. (Note, this function works fine on the CD-RW.) 2. Strangely, Windows XP can't "see" either drive when looking at the system via the "Control Panel". It's as if neither drive is connected--either physically or with a device driver. Further, when loading a disk into the CD-RW, Windows also doesn't know this and does nothing. What gives?! (And how can I fix this?) Thanks for your assistance. Greg

First make sure IDE cable and power connected to cd /dvd rom is working fine. If you connect both drive with 1 IDE cable then make sure 1 is set as master and another as slave. Also follow below.
Press windows key +R key so you can see run then type in run "devmgmt.msc" then press ok so you can see device manager uninstall cd/dvd rom drivers then it automatic install it's drivers. then check. Also you need to change registry for that type in run "regedit" then press ok then you can see registry editor then locate below key. HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Class\{4D36E965-E325-11 CE-BFC1-08002BE10318} And remove upper filter and lower filter. Then restart computer then check.

I HAVE A LAPTOP THAT STARTS BUT IT TELLS ME TO INSTALL AN OPERATING SYSTEM ON THE HARD DISK.

Sounds like a new blank Hard Drive, erased Hard drive or a faulty hard drive. If hard drives not faulty need to restore the original drives contents from a back up made previously on an external drive or DVD's. If you do not have the back up, then you need to load the original OS using an original restore CD / DVD's and then load all the correct and required drivers from the HP.com Site for that model PC and the OS (XP. VISTA. WIN 7 etc) you are using.

Remove cdrom drive

Removing the cd rom drive will not make your computer start up. Or are you saying the cd rom drive will not start up? CD rom drives are very sensitive on the disks they read. Most of them have a problem reading some of the discs that someone created on another computer. Make sure you're trying to read store bought discs.
Removing the cdrom drive is very simple. Turn the laptop over and you will normally see a screw with the icon of a circular cd on it. remove that screw then you can grab the cd rom unit by the door and pull it outl

Boot selection failed

First - re-seat the harddisk and reboot the computer. If the computer does not boot up then reboot andgo into the BIOS configuration to see if the BIOS detects the hard drive. If itdoesn't detect the hard drive then it could be faulty. Then the hard drive needsto be replaced in the computer/laptop, Windows installed and the computer orlaptop's device drivers plus your programs etc. to get a functioningcomputer/laptop again.

Hp g62 wont play or eject

The first thing you can try is to put a paperclip into the small hole in the front face of the dvd drive to pop open the tray (if you can't get it open). If you put in a CD, and it won't read it, and put in a DVD and it won't read it, then chances are your DVD drive is no longer working, and needs to be replaced.

Windows Boot Manager message: Windows encountered a problem communicating w/a device connected to your computer. Error may be caused by unplugging a removable storage device such as an external USB Drive...

Make sure there is nothing attached to the laptop, remove all devices like keyboard, mouse, flash drives and retry. If still having same error flip the laptop over and remove the battery and open up the 2 other compartments that have a screw holding them. One holds the memory modules and the other the hard drive, check and re seat all connections, then try again. If you still have the same error your hard drive is most likely failing,

Either:
* no elecrical power is reaching the disk-drive
* the "data" cable between the motherboard and the disk-drive is not connected
* the disk-drive has "died"

Take the computer to a qualified technician, for professional trouble-shooting and repair.
