Question about Sigma 17-70mm f/2.8-4.5 DC for Canon EOS

1 Answer

I recently bought the sigma 17-70 along with the canon 550d. It looks to me not sharp, not crisp, looks worst like the older 350 with the normal 18-55 canon. Is this normal for sigma?

If you bought these locally, this would be a matter to take up starting with the store where you purchased the items. This would be the quickest path to diagnosis presuming they would have another lens or camera for comparison. If bought on-line, contact the seller and describe the problem. In either case, they may elect to replace or repair. You could also contact SigmaUSA repair and ask for an RMA authorization for inspection/repair. Since there are two equipment brands, finger pointing is a possibility.

The praktica BC1 camera uses a bayonet mount described as PK. You need to search on ebay for "PK to EF adaptor". You will get plenty of results. Make your choice depending on whether you want focus confirm or not.

Almost all early Quantaray lenses (and Sigma lenses, Sigma made Quantaray) in the Canon EOS mount will show error messages on Canon digital cameras (but still work fine on older EOS film cameras). usually err99 but err01 also. There is no DIY fix and Sigma ran out of update parts years ago. Current production lenses and Canon made lenses will not have this problem. This lens would only work for someone shooting EOS film cameras with no intention of "upgrading" their system to digital Canon cameras in the future.

Card write protection

Look at your memory card.
SD and SDHC cards have a slide switch along one edge. The position farthest from the metal contacts locks the card, protecting it from writes. The position nearest the contacts unlocks the card.

I cant seem to get to use F2.8 even in the Manual mode on my Canon 550D. Thanks

check the connections are clean on the sigma and when you take the lens off look at the back and make sure thats wide open. if not the lens maybe faulty as the petal blades maybe stuck.
