Question about RCA Televison & Video

1 Answer

I have a RCA Model # F20051EM or F26051EM, The number is worn off and hard to read. I pulled it out to clean off the dust tipped it on its side and after putting it back in the entertainment center the pictures color went crazy. Its all purple on the sides and all gray in the middle, no matter how I try to adjust the color and tint. I know of the X-Radiation short test but do not know where the posts are located. Could this be the problem or is it someting else???? Thank You Very Much

Your screen needs to be degaussed. It's normal for the colors to look a little strange after you move a set around because of magnetic fields, and degaussing tneutralizes the field on the tube face which causes the discoloration. There is a circuit in color TV sets to degauss them automatically when you first turn them on, but they can't always cope. Or a part called a thermistor may have failed in your set (it's common) and the degaussing circuit may not be working.

The colors may gradually come back to normal if the TV degaussing circuit is working. You can purchase a handheld degaussing coil and clear this up, or you can call a TV technician to come out and do it. I have no idea what it costs for service calls today - I've been out of that business a good while now. I just made a quick check on eBay, and several degaussing coils are listed with average price around $50. Check what a tech would charge to come out and let price be your guide.

And the x-ray shutdown test you mentioned has nothing to do with the colors. That's to make sure the set will shut off properly if the picture tube voltage rises too high, possibly causing a safety hazard from x-ray emission. Don't worry about that; only after replacing some parts in the high-voltage section do you need to check the operation.

Thanks for using Fixya!

My RCA model F26051EM was playing and now it has a line through it although it still comes on you can see a picture slightly in the line can I fix this problem at home or how do I reset it

It seems to be a vertical scan output section circuit problem. I don't think, it can be rectified by a reset. Contact any service technician.
There are two methods to reset TVs. The first is simple to do; a Hard Reset. The other is somewhat skilled; is a Factory Reset (System Reset). To make it a hard reset, just unplug the TV from AC mains wall socket, and re-plug it back after 15 minutes or so. If you do this by overnight is better. This procedure will make it a hard reset. If you want to make it a system reset [Factory Reset]; you have to enter its service mode option, and select the factory reset option. If you wish to get some details; check the site linked here. Printer jams frequently. Jam is in the paper tray. It appears to try to pick up a sheet of paper and can't. When you open the paper tray the sheet of paper has been lifted up, but not enough to pull it...

Locate the paper lifter and the initial rollers and clean these with isopropil alcohol and a Q tip. These items become hard and polished and will not grip the paper properly, causing the jam.

Rca rtd155 dvd player continues to read no disc with a disc in it.

Try to play a CD audio. If it plays OK then the video laser is bad in the player. If it doesn't play, open the player and inspect the lens for dust and clean carefully with a "Q" tip with alcohol. If these remedies don't work, then replace the drive.

I have one of the older model playstation 3 consoles, it plays ps2 games as well. lately it's been having a hard time reading the ps3 discs. sometimes I have to take the disc out and put back in about ten...

The PS3 disk and the Bluray disk require more intensity from the laser or, depending which model you own, has a seperate lens to read them all together. PS2 games are equivilant to DVDs and then you have CDs at the bottom. Check out "how to clean my Bluray lens" on google. Might even check youtube. All you need is alcohol and q-tips. Don't press down too hard when cleaning and don't worry, the alcohol dries very quickly. Clean it with alchol then cleans again with dry q-tip. very easy.

NOTE: when removing the Bluray drive from the board, the ribbon clips "flip up" and DO NOT "pull out" like most PCs (computers) do....if you are familiar.
