I'd connect to your router/modem via the RJ-45 wired connection to gain internet access and then download the latest wi-fi driver for your laptop using this link under the software and driver downloads section. Choose from the available operating systems in the drop down box and then download either the Broadcom or Atheros wireless LAN installation files depending on what hardware is installed. If there's a wireless button/switch make sure that this is set to the on position and that your wireless router/modem is broadcasting your SSID.

Hi,

If you have not changed the preinstalled OS in the computer, the recovery partition in the computer will be still intact. In that case, you can use the recovery partition to perform a system recovery. Please restart the computer and press and hold the F10 key. This will launch the recovery partition and from there, you can select "Restore C Drive" to perform a system recovery.

As you have mentioned that you are trying to perform a system recovery using the discs(which i understand is recovery discs for the computer), I suggest that you check if the Boot sequence is set to CD/DVD Drive in the BIOS and then try again.

How do I completly reboot my hp pavilon dv6700 back to is factory settings. I have windows vista service pack2


here are some directions:

(if applicable) When the notebook is powered on, press the wireless button to turn ON the wireless switch.

Turn the power off and on to restart the computer.

Press the f11 key to launch the HP Recovery Manager. NOTE: If the HP Recovery Manager cannot access the hard drive to fix the system errors, use the personal recovery discs to recover the hard drive to its original condition.

When the Welcome to HP Recovery Manager windows displays, click Next .

When prompted to perform a Microsoft System Restore , select No , and then click Next .

When prompted to perform a System Recovery , select Yes , and then click Next .

When prompted to Backup Files , select the desired option.

When prompted to perform a Recover your computer to original factory condition , select Next and
allow the system recovery process to complete. NOTE: Do not interrupt the recovery process even
if the Windows desktop is displayed. The computer will restart automatically during the setup. Wait until the setup is complete and a prompt is displayed to login to the computer.

My sony vaio vgn- ns10l isnt loading the windows vista o/s. even the recovery thru f10 is not working. pls what is d problem. i dont have recovery discs.

As the Recovery Partition in the Hard Drive is not working, you may try performing a BIOS reset.

Performing a BIOS reset should resolve any issues related to the Recovery Partition.

The best way to fix the issue is to perform System Recovery. I recommend you to take the backup of your data as recovery will erase the complete data. You can restore the backup data after performing recovery.

You can run HP update to download and install drivers on your PC/Laptop, or run Microsoft update too.

Your HP PC came with a tool called Recovery Manager, Click the vista start menu and in the search bar type (Recovery Manager) without the parenthesis and it should display programs like RECOVERY DISC CREATION and RECOVERY MANAGER , please select the RECOVERY MANAGER an if you have VISTA USER ACCOUNT CONTROL turned on you will have to allow the program to run.
OK, once program launch, select the advance Options and click on HARDWARE DRIVER RE-INSTALLATION and click next. follow the screen instructions to re-install the driver or drivers.
Make sure you are not running any other program when using recovery manager.

The first thing you can do is a Hard Reset...A Hard Reset in other words is releasing the flea power out of your system... We can perform this by going ahead and unplugging the pin from the Notebook from which you get the power source and then remove the battery... Press the Power On Button for 30 seconds....Then go ahead and connect the battery and plug in the A/C Adapter pin andf restart the Notebook....If this does not work then you need to do go ahead and do a System Recovery....But before you perform a System Recovery you need to take a bach up of all your important data with the help of a local technician....This process of System Recovery takes around 1 and a Half hour.....You can perform a System Recovery by shutting down the system and then as soon as you restart the system we need to press the F11 key on the keyboard... The first screen it will show you is Windows is Loading files.... The second screen it will show you is HP Recovery....Welcome to System Recovery ... we need to click Next... Then it will give a screen where it will show System Restore Click No and then Next.... The next screen is System Recovery Click Yes and the click Next...System Recovery will start.... Once System Recoveryis done Please click Finish and then it will go ahead and install the softwares that were shipped with your system...It will be reset to Factory settings....As brand as new.... The system will shut down and restart five or six times before it will complete the installation of all the HP Softwares that were shipped with the system....Please remember that you need to take a back up with the help of a Local Technician & incase you have done it while performing the recovery it will give you an option where you need to click on Don't Back Up my system.....

Starting the recovery from power up If Windows Vista cannot open and if the Recovery partition on the hard disk drive is functioning properly, you can perform a System Recovery by performing the following procedure:
  1. Turn off the computer.
  2. Disconnect all connected devices (such as the Personal Media Drive, USB drives, printer, and fax), remove media from drives, and remove any recently added internal hardware. Do not disconnect the monitor, keyboard, mouse, and power cord.
  3. Turn on the computer.
  4. Do one of the following actions depending on how Windows Vista was installed:
    • If Windows Vista came pre-installed on your computer, press the F11 key repeatedly when the first screen opens (the logo screen), until Recovery Manager program opens on the screen.
    • If your computer was upgraded from Windows XP to Windows Vista, press the F10 key repeatedly when the first screen opens (the logo screen) until Recovery Manager program opens on the screen.
    If Recovery Manager does not open, a set of recovery discs is needed to perform a System Recovery. Follow the instructions listed in Starting the recovery from recovery discs .
  5. Click Next .
  6. On the screen that prompts for Microsoft System Restore select No , and then click Next .
  7. The Recovery Manager gives you the option of backing up your data files. Backing up your files is recommended. To back up your files select Yes , and then click Next . Follow the onscreen instructions. If you do not want to backup your files, select No , and then click Next .
  8. After the System Recovery is complete, the computer restarts and continues into Windows setup. Complete the setup screens and wait until the computer finishes the setup. Then, turn off the computer, reconnect all peripheral devices, and turn on the computer.
  9. Before using the computer, update and protect it by reinstalling any virus and security software that was installed before the System Recovery.
  10. Reinstall any software applications that were added after puchasing the computer, and replace any files that were backed up.
