Can you give a highlight of the steps, what to watch for, where to start, what screws to remove, etc.

I will figure it out as I go. I don't want you to be up all night.

    Thanks

Doug krysiak,

I have a tip at http://www.fixya.com/support/r6210638-replace_broken_projection_tv_screen which explains the process for replacing the screens. As far as cutting the screen I would tape it with 2 inch wide masking tape where the cut will take place and using a sabre saw with a metal blade (24 or more teeth) cut it along the line that you will have made for the size and cut it from the back side. This should get you up and running.

Thanks for using FixYa and for the great rating.

020-9913 is the part number for the service manual. It is a little pricey but you might be able to find it seconhand if you google the part number. http://www.partstore.com/Part/Toshiba/Toshiba/TZ50V51/Toshiba/Toshiba/0209913/New.aspx

I cannot give you the step by step instructions but even when I do so I tend to jump up in the middle of the night saying darn I forgot to tell him this, or I said this term when I really meant that term! So you have to be careful when even the most experienced service rep is giving you step by step instructions because of human mistakes. Something could be overlooked. I am always reassured by having the instructions next to me in print.

This is very difficult and delicate work. You should have a clean sheet to put them on and use gloves when you do it... Also why do you not have a lenticular that properly matches your screen size? Usually they are made for specific screens, and if they don't line up just right your picture is going to be off. I have never heard of anyone needing to "cut one down to size" before... that sounds like a very bad scenario.
Thanks
Tim

Broken lenticular screen

I have been looking around for one myself. And have actually resorted to calling all of the "Mom&Pop" repair shops in town to see if they have one in the backroom or something. The problem is that most of the finds you get for lenticular on the web have to do with advertising signs and baseball cards. These lenticular sheets are only similar in how they feel to the touch. The lenticular lense on a rear projection tv actually blocks the image behind it and diffuses the light at specific angles. It is also very likely the specific manufacturers used slightly different pitches in the viewing angle, so that you have to replace it with their screen. I will definately continue to watch this posting because I need one as well.
