You can see and hear a YouTube video of how a turntable motor should sound when you rotate it by hand.
If yours won't rotate or it sounds like it's grinding, etc., you may have a bad motor or plastic coupler.
To replace either, you need to unplug power, then remove the bottom cover of the oven. You may have to cut the cover off with snips, then use a screw when reassembling it.
You can probably find an exploded view and order parts by entering your model number here: http://www.searspartsdirect.com
Sharp parts are usually less expensive when ordered from Tritronics at http://www.wehaveparts.com

SOURCE: Microwave does not heat
Sounds like the magnetron has failed. This is the component that
produces the microwave that heats the food. The cost of the magnetron
is about 95% of the cost of a microwave .
Most people don't, for this reason, replace the magnetron, they replace
the whole oven which is probably what you will end up doing. There is a
possibility that the circuit that provides power to the magnetron is
faulty and you need to take it apart, find the proper electrical leads
and test them with a volt meter. To do this you have to remove it from
its mounting and take it apart. It is a fairly lengthy process however.

in the first microwaves they had the sence to install a small sqaure plate were the light was (as they blow every 1-2 yrs but as the years went on it was presumed to be to expensive to do so. so now to replace the globe we have to take the whole top cassing off ounce done youl see the clobe there are two types unsrewable and fixed place. remember this formost microwave ovens hold up to 1000 volts in there capacator regardless of time so there very dangerous to work on but so long as you dont touch any other wires youl be fine try to unscrew the globe there may be sticky tape to stop it rattling loode - cut it if it undoes replace it if in like most cases i wont budge its a sealed globe and needs to be replaced by a lic teach this job should not cost more than $ 15 for parts and half hrs service charge
